A girl in a Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat takes on a pair of Mustangs and a Dodge Demon at the drag strip.
This trio of drag races works out like an ascending series of tests for this Charger Hellcat driver. Does she have what it takes to take on a pair of Mustangs and the dreaded Dodge Demon?
The Charger SRT Hellcat comes with Dodge’s beloved 6.2-L HEMI V8 supercharged to 707 hp and 650 lb-ft of torque. Zero to sixty is done in just 3.3 seconds on its way to a top speed of 204 mph. While the Hellcat has a lot of power, it is also the heaviest car on the track at 4,535 lbs.
In our first matchup, the Hellcat takes on the Mustang GT. This isn’t much of a contest as the Mustang only has 460 hp from its 5.0-L Coyote V8, and although it weighs 700 lbs less than the Charger, that’s not enough of a weight advantage to make up for 250 fewer horses under the hood.
The Hellcat mops up the GT handily posting an 11.58-second quarter-mile time with the Mustang a half-second behind.
Next, we have the Mustang GT350. This is a bit more of a fair fight--while the Mustang is down on horses at just 526 hp from a 5.2-L supercharged V8, it’s also a lot lighter at 3,750 lbs. They’re also both supercharged RWD cars, with the Mustang having a 6-speed manual as opposed to the Charger’s 8-speed automatic.
Unlike the last race, the Charger gets a good head start and stays well ahead of the trailing GT350 for the entire quarter-mile drag. Final times are 11.73 seconds at 121.72 mph for the Hellcat with the GT350 finishing in 12.27 seconds at 117.38 mph.
Finally, the Demon. This will be tough for the Charger driver as the Demon has both 140 more horses weighs 250 lbs less. That’s quite the deficit for the Hellcat to come back from, and it indeed proves to be too much for our hero to handle.
The Demon leaps off the line in true Demon fashion, finishing in 11.22 seconds versus the Charger’s 11.83.
A special bonus match comes right at the end against another Hellcat, but this time the Challenger model. Both have the same engine and same power figures, with the Charger weight a few hundred pounds more. Which do you think would win?
