Harley-Davidson was founded 117 years ago in Milwaukee, Wisconsin and since that time they've been the preeminent American motorcycle manufacturer bar none. They've endured countless recessions and the Great Depression, World Wars, and changing customer tastes over the years. And throughout that time they've delivered some of the most sought after bikes to the public. But they also build one-offs, special edition and service bikes too for the military. World War II in particular witnessed the iconic bike maker rolling out military variants for use by our Armed Forces throughout far flung theaters of operation across the globe.

And up for sale right now is a beautifully restored, and highly desirable experimental model of the famed 1941 Harley-Davidson WLA Military. Let's check out this unique bike and see what makes it so special.

The most desirable aspect of this model is that it was an early production version that was highly experimental with many different elements from Harley's extensive parts bin. At the time of manufacture they were tweaking and fine tuning the bike to come up with a solid production version.

It also includes a "Buddy" seat with "clamps for two-up riding – to move troops. Cad plating on 18″ wheels, Civilian Exhaust fishtail, facing the ground, this was moved to the rear on 42 models. Keyed ignition switch and special wiring for military including external fuse holder. Standard civilian speedo, black and silver with chrome bezel. Smooth saddle bag clip-on type style, special skid plate that attaches with two clamps upfront, high headlamp with the internal ground, Long seat T bracket (same as civilian) to accommodate buddy seat/ammo box and gun brackets."
