The 1960s and 70s were considered the golden age of the muscle car. In those years, Chevrolet launched the Chevelle and the model became one of the most loved muscle cars at that time. If you want to bring that era back to life, this 1966 Chevelle SS restomod should do the trick. Let’s take a quick look.

Pearl White Chevelle

This Chevelle is one of the nearly 67,000 examples of the SS 396 build for the 1966 model year. As per its seller, this Chevelle comes with a VIN plate with the 138 sequence in its serial number, thereby denoting its authenticity as an SS 396. More than 50 years since it was built, this Chevelle looks so new, as made possible by a careful restoration and modification process, including an engine swap.

This Chevelle was wrapped in in a Pearl White hue that was refinished about 10 years ago. This 1966 muscle car features a fiberglass hood with a high-rise cowl-induction scoop, while its major chrome pieces are still fully intact and in good condition. It rides on Cragar S/S wheels hugged by BFGoodrich radials.

ZZ572 V8 Engine Swap

Because of its pearl white finish, this 1966 Chevelle may look innocent. But be careful, as this muscle is truly aggressive on the road. Originally, this Chevelle was powered by an SS 396 engine, which was the largest available mill at that time. However, someone decided to replace its SS 396 engine with the largest crate engine in the world -- Chevrolet Performance’s 572-cubic inch ZZ572 V8 crate engine with 620 hp of max output and a 645 lb.-ft. of torque.

Instead of a Holley Dominator carburetor, this engine comes with an Edelbrock throttle-body fuel injection with a remote calibration. This big-block V-8 is mated to a new Hughes Performance 4L80 four-speed performance automatic transmission, with power sent to a Currie Enterprises nine-inch Ford-type rear axle and differential.
