Hennessey Performance has once again taken a perfectly good North American car and turned it into a monster.

Why won’t Hennessey leave well enough alone? Does every car need over 1,000 horsepower? Does it need to have a supercharger the size of a second, smaller engine? And does it need to wail and scream like a banshee when it passes you at well over 150 mph?

We’re sure if you were to ask Hennessey the answer to all of these questions would be “yes.”

Case in point, their latest creation: the HPE1000 CTS-V supercharged engine upgrade. As usual, Hennessey takes a perfectly good and already plenty powerful Cadillac CTS-V and does what they do best, which is tune the ever-loving snot out of it.

A Cadillac CTS-V normally comes equipped with 640 hp thanks to a 6.2-L supercharged LT4 V8 engine (the same one as on the Corvette Z06, incidentally). Zero to sixty is a whip-fast 3.6 seconds.

After Hennessey is done with it, the engine produces 1,000 hp and can propel the 4,200 lb sedan from zero to sixty in 2.9 seconds. A quarter-mile drag is over and done 10.5 seconds at 135 mph--that’s Dodge Challenger Demon speeds from a car that weighs significantly more.

To make all this magical power happen, Hennessey performs the usual pull and replace of many of the CTS-V’s internal components. There's a new higher flow (ie. larger) supercharger, new intake manifold, strengthened camshaft, upgraded cylinder heads, intake and exhaust valves, new intercooler, new stainless steel headers, fancy catalytic converters, and much, much more.

There’s no mention of any suspension upgrades, which is worrying on a car that has 1,000 hp, but Hennessey does say that an automatic transmission upgrade is required. No details on how that works exactly, but presumably that’s a different package that Hennessey offers.

While you’re saving up for a new transmission, it’s probably a good idea to throw in a set of heavy-duty performance tires too. Just in case.

The HPE1000 CTS-V comes with a 2 year or 24,000-mile warranty and the usual assortment of Hennessey badges and floor mats. You’ll need to provide your own CTS-V, but it can be either 2016, 2017, or 2018 model years. Hennessey will provide you with a full tank of 93 octane to get you started.
