Watch a 1,000 horsepower Hennessey-modified Camaro upgrade in action.

Some of you might remember The Exorcist, Hennessey’s answer to the Dodge Demon. It uses a 6th-gen Camaro to produce an ungodly 1,000 crank horsepower. Compared to the Demon’s 840 hp, that’s a lot, hence the name.

They also did some very clever marketing with a man in a black suit and black helmet holding up two wrenches that had been welded into a mechanic’s version of a cross. We liked it even though it didn’t have any of the technology that makes the Demon such a good drag racer. It was just a 1,000 hp Camaro, and honestly, what more do you need?

Well, now Hennessey has returned with another 1,000 hp Camaro, but this time it’s not the 6th-gen Exorcist. It’s actually a 5th-gen Camaro ZL1 with its engine swapped out for a massive 7.0-L version that puts even the 6th-gen Camaro’s to shame.

This must be a special one-off as Hennessey makes no mention of it in any of their website’s reading, but we get enough from the video to have a good idea of what’s going on.

Under the hood is a 427 LSx crate engine. That 427 stands for 427 cubic inches, which works out to roughly 7.0-L displacement. The crate engine is then given a 2.9-L supercharger, a custom HPE camshaft, ported cylinder heads, and an overhauled fuel system. It probably also has a few bits from The Exorcist’s build, which would involve a new intercooler, catalytic converters, and stainless steel headers too.

All told, this 5th-gen Camaro now makes 1,000 crank horsepower and 800 lb-ft of torque.

Our gracious host lines up on the Pennzoil Proving Grounds strip to give us a taste of the Camaro’s power, and judging by the way the video skips from a relatively slow and stuttering start to a wailing V8 engine, we’re guessing that 1,000 hp is way too much for even those big tires to grip the pavement.

But who cares? It’s a 1,000 hp Camaro. What more do you need?
