When the Ram TRX began deliveries with a supercharged Hellcat Hemi under the hood pumping out 702 horsepower, Ford's long-tenured F-150 Raptor immediately lost a ton of appeal. Ford now plans to bring the Raptor back into contention with a V8-powered R model targeted for later this year, though in the meantime, the EcoBoost Raptor with 450 horsepower on tap simply can't keep up. Luckily, the maniacal tuners at Hennessey Performance offer upgrades for the Raptor and just released a dyno video proving the significant power gains available as part of the VelociRaptor 600 package.

Dyno Testing On Hennessey's Dynojet

As the automotive industry simultaneously faces a newly electrified future while celebrating peak internal combustion, the fact that the 2022 Raptor's twin-turbocharged V6 only produces 450 horsepower from the factory comes as something of a baffling mystery—that's only as much as a 2006 Porsche Cayenne Turbo, after all. But turbos make for eminent tunability, as proven by Hennessey's testing on their Dynojet chassis.

Twin-Turbo V6 Screaming To Redline

The video features a screaming pull to redline for the tuned VelociRaptor 600, though the truck isn't sending grunt to all four wheels. The sound alone makes the minute-thirty video worth a watch, even if the muffle of snails can't quite match the all-out wail of a throaty V8 engine. Fans waiting for a version of the Shelby Mustang GT500 V8 under the hood of an F-150 might still feel a little disappointed.

Peaks Gains And Area Under The Curve

But the power gains proven by dyno testing should come as a reassurance that the 2022 VelociRaptor can keep up with the competition, with peaks of 414 horsepower and 504 lb-ft of torque at the wheel marking a significant increase over maxes of 361 and 458, respectively, before tuning. Hennessey claims that torque bump, which arrives about 1,500 RPM earlier to increase the area under the curve by a ton, allows for a 0-60 time of only 4.2 seconds on the way to a quarter-mile in 12.9 seconds at 110 miles per hour. The limited run of only 250 units of the 2022 VelociRaptor will cost around $115,000 (including the base truck), which puts it in slightly more rarified air than a stock Ram TRX—all that remains to be seen is how big Ford goes on the Raptor R and, of course, what Hennessey can do with that bigger V8, as well.
