Hennessey Performance just set a new world record for the fastest quarter-mile run of an SUV in their new Jeep Trackhawk HPE1200 upgrade.
We already knew that the Jeep Trackhawk was a fast SUV, but it wasn’t yet the fastest SUV. Even though it could go from zero to sixty in less time than most sports cars get from zero to forty, it was still slow in comparison to other vehicles, such as rocket ships.
But that was before Hennessey got their hands on everyone’s favorite speeding apartment building. First, they gave it their HPE850 upgrade which boosted power from a stock 707 hp to 850 hp. Time to sixty fell to under three seconds, but that still wasn’t enough for Hennessey. They next plopped on the HPE1000 upgrade which included a new 4.5-L supercharger to replace the old 2.7-L Hellcat version. A few other engine tweaks and power then broke the 1,000 horses barrier with a zero to sixty time of just 2.7 seconds.
And yet Hennessey still believed there was more power to be found in the Trackhawk. They once again put their beloved SUV under the mechanical knife, giving it a brand new supercharger pulley, throttle body, ported cylinder heads, camshaft, forged aluminum pistons, forged steel connecting rods, balanced rotating assembly, stainless steel long tube headers, and a set of new high-flow catalytic converters.
After all this, the Trackhawk’s power was now 1,200 horses at the crank and 1,000 hp at the rear wheels. From a stock 645 lb-ft of torque, now it generates 1,080 lb-ft. Top speed is expected to be over 200 mph with a zero to sixty time of just 2.3 seconds.
Naturally, Hennessey calls it the HPE1200 upgrade.
With that kind of power, Hennessey decided to get it prepped with some 109 Octane racing fuel, take it down to the Lonestar Motorsports Park drag strip, and see just how fast it could complete a quarter-mile drag race.
Turns out it was very fast. A quarter-mile was done in just 9.66 sec at 145 mph, making it the fastest drag racing SUV in the world.
No word on when the HPE1200 upgrade will become available, but we expect them to sell out soon after going on sale.
