To take on the established Electric giants like Tesla, Mercedes is coming out swinging with its all-new electric luxury vehicle, the 2022 Mercedes-Benz EQS. It is a part of the EQ family, which is the Mercedes EV sub-brand. Mercedes defines EQ as “Electric Intelligence” which showcases the German’s ability with technological advancements. The EQS boasts high numbers with a claimed range of 478 miles. Also, as it flaunts the tri-spoke badge on the hood, we expect the EQS to bring real luxury and panache into the EV game.

With the launch of the Mercedes-Benz EQS expected to be in the summer of 2021, it is garnering attention worldwide. To keep you in the loop here are the coolest features of the 2022 Mercedes-Benz EQS.

The Electric Soundtrack

There is no exhaust or fuel gurgling engine under the hood to create a soundtrack in the Mercedes EQS because of its electric powertrain. The drive is quiet and soothing in the well-insulated cabin as there is no sound from the powertrain or the road. Some might welcome the silent drive, but some would miss the sound of a revving engine, gear shifts, and the EQS has got your back on both scenarios.

Sound engineer Dr. Thomas Kuppers contemplated the idea of adding IC engine sounds similar to the AMG V8. He soon realized that synthesized sounds similar to the ones used in games like Forza cannot entirely mimic the sounds of the car driving in different environments. This would not do justice to the status of the EQS, this thought led to the development of original sounds.

The car comes pre-installed with two different sound profiles, Silver Waves and Vivid Flux, and the company has promised a third downloadable sound profile named Roaring Pulse whenever the car has an OTA update. All three are futuristic and pseudo electric combustion engine sounds that mimic the real-time speed and braking. The infotainment system will feature a setting to toggle the ambient sounds on and off.

Ambient lighting is no longer an extraordinary feature in cars these days, especially on luxury cars like Mercedes. The 2022 EQS takes mood lighting to another level with its Active Ambient Lighting capability. Mercedes has dedicatedly worked on the software to make it perfect. The ambient lighting of the EQS stands out from all of its competitors.

Engineers at Mercedes installed 190 LEDs in the cabin synced with the assistance systems, climate control, and can even reflect the acceleration and braking. They also synced these LEDs with the energizing comfort mode, a Mercedes exclusive feature for a spa-like experience in the car.

As it is a Mercedes, it also has a built-in virtual assistant, and if any passenger sitting in the car asks a question to it, the passenger seat glows up, as it does in one of the game shows on the telly! Yes, you will have the control to switch this feature off. It makes an entertaining feature if you have children on board or want to show off the abilities of the EQS.

EQS not only looks futuristic but also ensures that the tech matches the styling. The dashboard that comes as standard equipment in the EQS 580 is an art itself. Dubbed “the Hyperscreen” which comprises three individual screens seamlessly put together to create the mesmerizing 56-inch widescreen that practically covers the entire dashboard.

First, we get a 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster for the driver, which flows into the 17.7-inch infotainment system in the center of the dash merging with another 12.3-inch display for the passenger. We can equip the EQS 450 with a standard S-class dashboard or upgrade to the Hyperscreen with a premium package.

Smart cars have reduced driver input to the minimum with assists like autonomous driving, automatic braking, automatic lane keeping, automatic cruise control, and such. Mercedes is taking a smart step ahead with the EQS. It has over 350 sensors installed in the cabin to detect the driving patterns and monitoring the drivers’ behaviors to the minute details like the blinking of eyes.

The AI stores the data collected in the regular use of the vehicle to compute the driving style. All the features used each time get constantly saved to enhance the ease of access. This saved data, like frequently used features, occupy the MBUX primary screen options automatically. Not only this, it keeps a count of the number of occupants seated in the EQS at a particular time.

Artificial Intelligence or the Assistant of the EQS also takes good care of the occupants. There is a personal display for each of the four seats in the EQS to keep the passengers entertained. Sensors used in the cabin are well-adjusted to help the car understand which person is talking to the AI. If any occupant says he is cold, the AI will automatically detect the person, and the A/C vent facing towards that passenger would change the temperature.
