Ice-T was arrested yesterday while driving his brand new McLaren 720S for blowing past a toll booth in New York.

You might remember Ice-T from his highly successful rapping career (8 studio albums and counting) or as the guy behind a lemonade stand in that 2016 Geico commercial. He's also a detective in the highly acclaimed TV Show, Law & Order: SVU.

Despite the bad-dude attitude, Ice-T typically stays on the right side of the law. However, a mixup at the George Washington Bridge in his brand new McLaren 720S landed him in hot water when he blew past a toll booth without paying.

According to TMZ, Ice-T was approaching the New Jersey side of the George Washington Bridge when he entered the E-ZPass lane--the one where you pre-purchase a transmitter so you can skip having to wait in line to pay a toll. Only Ice-T was driving a brand new car he’d just imported from California and had forgotten to take his E-ZPass with him.

That probably wouldn’t have been enough to get him arrested if he hadn’t also forgotten that his brand new McLaren 720S hadn’t just arrived from California a few weeks ago and didn’t have its license plates on yet. As Jalopnik points out, in California, you can drive without plates for up to 90 days waiting for your plates to arrive, but not in New York.

So there was a very brief chase as cops pulled over Ice-T and arrested him for driving an unregistered vehicle and failing to pay at a toll booth. After giving him a pair of citations for the offenses, Ice-T was released. He then went straight to the set of Law & Order: SVU, where he resumed his role as a cop.

There’s a certain irony there, but it’s hard to put your finger on it.

Ice-T’s Instagram is filled with pictures of his brand new ride. He seems quite enamored with it, which might have something to do with the brand new polished wheels and Michelin Sport Cup 2 tires he just put on.
