Over the years, Doug DeMuro has entertained us with countless YouTube videos of the quirks and features of different cars, and has become one of the most recognizable people in the automotive industry. His opinions, his video quality and overall reviews have grown into the franchise that he is today. Much is the same when comparing himself and the car he is reviewing in his latest episode.

The BMW M3 E36, is a dream car that has matured into a classic like a fine wine, but since this is a Doug DeMuro video, let's dig into its quirks and features.

A Round Of Exterior Quick Quirks On The M3

Doug jumps right into the quirks by telling us that the US model M3 E36 had only 240 horsepower while later models of the European version, like the one he is reviewing, had 320 horses under the hood, making this Euro model much more desirable.

The exterior showcases many more famous features that make way for the newer M3s. The mirrors are a perfect example of form over function. As Doug says, the mirrors are perhaps not aerodynamic, but they're meant to look fast and a lot of this ideology has different placements throughout the car. The enlarged front lip and openings for the grille, as well as the twisted rocker panel, are all meant to give off a more aggressive look. However, as he boldly points out, it is quite subtle compared to the newer BMWs which shout to the world that you are in an M series with their grilles and M badging everywhere.

Interior Features Of The E36

The interior is home to the most '90s cloth patterns ever made, according to Doug. The cloth seats adorn the M cross pattern cloth, which looks like analytic graphs with the famous M colors splashed all over.

Another interesting feature is that the Euro model came with manual seats. All the levers, however, are not placed in the standard locations. For example, if you were to move your manual seat, you would reach under your seat for the bar. Not in the BMW, since all the levers for seat movements are on the side of the seat, which can make moving the seat while driving very difficult. Despite these quirks, this still remains a classic and as Doug says “vintagey”.

The Doug Score

After what Doug describes as an excellent driving experience, it is time for the Doug Score of 54/100, which places it right below a Ferrari F355 and above a Subaru Impreza 22B. A very admirable score for a car that will continue to ferment into a glass of wine.
