Life's been tough for the Mazda's RX bloodline. With an absolute monster, the RX7, Mazda proved its worth. But sadly, RX8 wasn't as well renowned and reputed as its previous generations.

Everybody knows the one rule in the automobile manufacturing industry. "Newer Must Be Better". Although the RX8 tried to maintain its previous generation ideology; the car wasn't as historical as expected.

The RX-8 reutilized the engine and the sleek dynamics and suicide rear doors.

The RX8 is often a stain to its grand legacy with serious emission problems and unreliable engine optimization. Most complaints received terms of inadequate engine housing, tasteless interior builds, and misguided exhaust routing.

With a damaging setback, Mazda and most manufacturers disregarded this engine technology due to its incompatible fuel economy and overlooked pollutive outputs.

The entire lineage powered by rotaries had outlived its time and succumbed to early eco-friendly tech resolutions.

As usual, the loyal rotary fan base would never stop boasting about the beast they tame regardless of the lashes it received from the unhappy press.

While our imagination is an endless loop of possibilities, hope is a double-edged blade. As of the now, all we can do is imagine the RX9 with the best possible features on its way and hope it gives us what we desire with the use of flawless tech.

Here are five new features of the RX9 we hope to see with the RX9:

The Mazda RX9 May Be Visually Similar To The RX Vision

To see is to believe, and perhaps the RX9 will have visual and practical similarities with its indirect predecessor, the RX Vision. The RX vision unveiled in the 2015 Tokyo motor show was an award-winning car for its impeccable design.

Winning the "Most Beautiful Concept Car" at the International Automobile Festival conducted in Paris in 2016, it is no doubt that Mazda won't let this design got benched.

At its core design, the RX Vision implements the KODO philosophy (the soul of movement) trademarked to Mazda.

Although it is not specified how many rotors the original car has, the RX-Vision GT3 Concept uses a four-rotor engine.

The sleek and sick creases of the RX vision may be seen on the RX9 too, but most of us expect smoother cuts to polish its aerodynamics. The lower front will be embedded with a usual wide open-mouth intake, and improved small sharp headlights with the sport hood elevated around the fenders.

It is expected to be a tiny coupe and will come with a swept-back windshield. There is a chance that the rear end may feature an optional spoiler. If fans are lucky enough, the RX vision concept may be incorporated into the upcoming RX9 in 2022.

Every mistake made is a lesson learned through burning your hands. This time, everybody believes Mazda has got its game back. The RX9 may resurrect the long-dead lineage. Having to learn the hard way, Mazda will utilize its all-new SkyActiv-R technology, which reeks of reliability and lowers fuel consumption.

This new tech is a piece made for the RX Vision, all the more reason for expecting its first show.

The improved reliability and emission standards are achieved by reducing the weight of the parts, meaning a powerful engine with less drag weight.

Hybrid Rotary Engine

Wait for a second !? RX?! A Hybrid Rotary Engine ?! You've got to be kidding me! That's exactly how every RX stan reacts to being spoiled with such vague possibilities.

As astounding as it sounds, it may be true considering the current carbon footprints left by automobiles, especially by the RX. Mazda must make amends to its previous generation to finally reboot after this long, especially in the engine section.

Looking at it head-on, the new Rotary engine that Mazda has developed is completely out of the box. It utilizes triangular rotors rather than conventional piston-powered engines. These motors are being built for future hybrid plug-in cars, and we may hope to see an electrically aided rotary engine for the first time in the market.

The RX9 Platform And Powertrain Specifications

The concept’s 106.3-inch wheelbase is longer than its cousin MX-5; the main lying body and chassis structure could be similar. With Mazda in possession of the creamy wealth of Skyactiv components, implementation of the RX vision merged with MX-5 could be envisioned.

Mazda recognizes the hard work of 50 engineers that worked eight years to develop a new 16X two-rotor engine. It goes all the way to file a patent for this new rotary engine earlier.

The concept even has direct fuel injection, turbocharging. With a boasted improved displacement of 23 percent compared to the RX-8's 1.3-litre, the car can easily pass the 400 HP hurdle. It should be expected the initial 0 to 60 MPH acceleration would be less than 5 seconds. Using aluminium and carbon-reinforced plastics in the place of iron for the end plates results in a significant weight reduction.

Rear Wheel Drive Powertrain Of The 2022 Mazda RX-9

Last but not least, this patent image that Mazda filed reveals a front-engine rear-wheel-drive Powertrain. The concept is of a two-door car with a 48-volt system and rear transaxle. The front wheels appear to be attached to electric motors, which hinges on the upcoming RX9’s hybrid rotary engine.

Exciting isn't it?! With the given concept details of the RX Vision, fans are excited to see such futuristic tech.

This concept may cost north of $60,000 and fall short of $70,000, making it a fierce rival for Porsche Cayman. Unmistakably, the lion takes two steps back to prance on its prey mercilessly.
