Energica has to be the hottest name in the Electric motorcycle business at the moment, by securing the contract to supply the MotoE series they haven’t only gotten unprecedented exposure, but also an unparalleled chance to develop their machines.

It rather obviously doesn’t come without substantial investment, but the pros must surely outweigh the cons at this point in time. So far, they have launched three distinct models, two naked bikes and naturally their homologation sports bike. Being an Italian firm, design is something they take very seriously, and it shows, leading the way in terms of looks in a market that is sometimes guilty of favoring function over form.

At present, Energica rightly claims that this is the only electric streetfighter on the market, this and the more aggressive RS version will pack a serious punch.

Impressive enough power figures of 145 horsepower, it is that near-perfect linear electric torque that really makes these bikes special, going from 0-60 in 2.6 seconds. With a claimed range of well over 200 miles and a DC fast charger, it outperforms pretty much all the opposition in this department too. It is a case of “you get what you pay for” as this machine doesn’t come cheap, but it delivers in pretty much every respect.

It might be the most budget-friendly of the three options, but that doesn’t mean it is the least interesting.

Down on power when compared to the other two bikes, it still makes an impressive 109 horsepower and gets to 60 in under 3 seconds, blisteringly quick for “classic retro-styled electric motorcycle.” If we are honest, it doesn’t look very “retro” but that is just marketing, after all, they had to find a way to package their sub $20000 bike, and with the soft bags attached in this picture, it looks the part of a tourer (as long as you touring less than 200 miles).

Although it has the same power and 0-60 figures as the EVA Ribelle, this fully-faired electric superbike will get you all the way to 150 mph unlike the other two that are limited to 125 mph.

Being fully-faired it also completely conceals the battery pack, making it look a whole lot more conventional, but no less beautiful. All of the Energica bikes are well designed, but the Ego is a stunning superbike. All the running gear is of the highest caliber and it all blends beautifully with their design theme, this is also arguably the closest you will get to an actual racing bike as it shares a host of components with the MotoE machine, unlike the MotoGP bikes that have bespoke everything.

This year we will see the RS versions of all the bikes launched, which is more of an update than an evolution. They will get new more aggressive maps that will make the most of the already substantial power, just another step in the right direction not only for Energica but for electric motorcycles in general.
