Hyundai has recently been on a roll, with a complete revamp of its portfolio with radical and futuristic changes. The design has been the main focus here with quite a few bold designs being put forth. Remember the Hyundai Ioniq? It was the sole fully electric offering in Hyundai's lineup for a while, until now.

With the recent debut of the Ioniq 5, Hyundai has opened up a new chapter in EVs. And with its radical Parametric Pixel design theme, the South Korean automaker has managed to make it to the spotlight, despite being notably late for the show. Hyundai has also decided to split up the 'IONIQ' nameplate into an EV-only sub-brand. The next-in-line is the Ioniq 6, which has been confirmed for 2022. While the Ioniq 5 has managed to roll quite the eyeballs, Ioniq 6 has already stirred up quite the interest, even in its concept stage.

Hyundai has confirmed on the upcoming 2022 Ioniq 6 to share the same platform as the 5 and will be the production iteration of the Hyundai Prophecy Concept that was showcased in 2020. This is classified as a C-segment sedan, which would put it in the size-vicinity of a Toyota Corolla. The Ioniq 6 will most likely rival the likes of the Tesla Model 3. But with an even more powerful Ioniq 6 N in the pipeline, the Porsche Taycan, and Audi e-Tron are not far off from a face-off.

The 2022 Hyundai Ioniq 6 shares its underpinnings with the equally radical Ioniq 5 and will bring the uber-cool Hyundai Prophecy Concept to life.

2022 Hyundai Ioniq 6 Is The Second Offering In The 'Pixel' Driven EV-Line Up

Hyundai is becoming quite the trendsetter when it comes to EVs. And a major part of that attention is because of its retro-vibed 'Parametric Dynamics' design language. The automaker showed its radical design language with the Ioniq 5 which has taken the auto industry quite curiously. Second, in line on the list is the Hyundai Ioniq 6 which is based on the slick-looking Prophecy Concept. Curiously, the Ioniq 6 will be the most fluidic design of the trio of Ioniq's slated for the first wave of radical EVs. The Ioniq 7 is the last in line, which is a full-sized SUV.

Just like the Ioniq 5, the upcoming Ioniq 6 will also be based on the much anticipated E-GMP platform from Hyundai. This platform has tuned in quite the interest with even Apple wanting a bite of it. The powertrain layouts would also be shared with the Ioniq 6 getting a dual-motor powertrain coupled to either an AWD or RWD layout. Two battery packs would be offered - a standard 72.6 kWh and a more powerful 100 kWh pack, in the top-of-the-line Ioniq 6 N iteration.

Expect the base Ioniq 6 to do 0-60 MPH in under 5 seconds, and the N variant having the capacity to do 60 MPH in under 3 seconds! Expect the same uber-cool charging tech to be shared with the Ioniq 5 as well. This will allow the '6' to charge from 10 to 80 percent in just 18 minutes using a 350 kW charger. It will also feature Bi-Directional charging that allows the Ioniq 6 to be a moving generator.

Not much has been revealed regarding the interior layout of the upcoming 2022 Ioniq 6 but we expect it to closely resemble that of the Ioniq 5's interior. The Prophecy Concept does have a luxurious and futuristic take on what a connected autonomous car would look like, but for 2022 things are going to be a bit mellower.

It surely will pack L3 autonomous driving technology, but that doesn't include the elimination of the steering wheel! Expect a lot of the spacious cues to be shared with the Ioniq 5. But Hyundai will pack a lot of luxury and sportiness into the Ioniq 6. This will include more dramatic upholstery options and bigger curvier screens. It will also pack a segment-first Augmented Reality Head-Up display.

Pixels are the core of the new design philosophy that Hyundai has administered for its IONIQ line-up. While the neo-retro design elements are quite prominent in the Ioniq 5, Hyundai has splashed in a lot more curves for the Ioniq 6. The root form factor will more or less be in sync with the Prophecy Concept that brings the 'Parametric Dynamics' to a sedan form factor. This 4-door sedan will give a tough run to the likes ranging from the humble Tesla Model 3 all the way to the Porsche Taycan. Aerodynamics has been given a lot of importance here, which explains the slippery cues all around.

2022 Hyundai IONIQ 6: Expected Pricing And Launch Date

Things are quite vague on the launch date and pricing of the Ioniq 6. The current silicon-chip shortage has become a setback for many automakers who have forayed into the EV platter. But Hyundai assures that the route map is clear and the 2022 Ioniq 6 is slated to launch in 2022 with an expected MSRP of around $40,000. While the line-up is wholesome, it is actually the expected N-badged Ioniq 6 that tickles our senses!
