Initially featured in 2021, the new Gladiator is the redesigned version set to be unveiled in 2022. Based on the SUV Wrangler platform, this new car is expected to be quite identical in its styling, though a series of mechanical improvements and style enhancements shall improvise the car further ahead. In simple terms, it can be said that the Gladiator is going to be a modified pickup version of the Wrangler, only with more versatility.

So far, Jeep has announced four versions of the Gladiator; the Mojave, the Rubicon, the Hercules, and Gladiator Sport. Each version shall be equipped with different trim levels, and climbing up from the base to the higher models, buyers shall get access to more thrilling features.

Perfectly designed for adventure travels, high-capacity towing, and seamless off-roading, the new Gladiator can be a tough competitor for the other pickup trucks in its segment. While Jeep is not much elaborate about the changes and inclusion this car may have, Jeep's fans have already increased their expectations.

So, here is a glimpse of how Jeep's newest SUV-based pickup truck, Gladiator, might look like after its unveiling in 2022.

The Rugged Body Design

Owing to the design history of Jeep, it can be said that the upcoming Gladiator will sport a rugged design similar to its predecessors. Further, the Gladiator may also draw some styling inspiration from its famous sibling, Wrangler.

Alongside some similarities from the Wrangler, the new Gladiator shall also feature a double cab with a bed for cargo design. The iconic seven-bar grille at the front shall be retained, and the headlights are said to be large and round, just like the present model. Rumors also suggest that Jeep might be a little creative and could equip square-shaped headlights in the new Gladiator. The bumpers shall be robust with massive fender flares to give the car an aggressive and sturdy look.

With every different version, the body of the car is expected to have some minor changes. The Gladiator Sport may have a longer wheelbase with different doorways and various body-shaded features, such as wheel arches, enhanced fenders, and 18-inch wheels.

The Gladiator Hercules might just be a tad bit more chunky and stronger, justifying its name. It shall have 17-inch wheels with 33-inch all-terrain tires, a dark-shaded grille for an aggressive look, and angled headlights. The larger wheels will also offer greater ground clearance hence making the version the perfect choice for off-roading. Further, Jeep may just throw in the Fox off-road shock absorbers, locking front and rear axles, and electronic sway bar disconnect to make it more robust.

Moreover, buyers shall be able to choose from a variety of different color shades like silver, yellow, red, white, black, etc.

Comfortable And Smart Interior

The Gladiator's interior is expected to be simple and smart, just in line with the Wrangler. The dashboard is expected to be clean and user-friendly. It may also have a waterproof push-button start, a heated steering wheel, and heated front seats for enhanced convenience and comfort. The extended wheelbase shall offer more legroom for the passengers at the rear.

The Gladiator may also have removable body and roof panels that can transform its interior into an open-air cabin to give a rather adventurous appeal to the rider. Alongside the cargo bed at the back, the Gladiator's passenger cabin will have ample storage options. All the seats are said to be highly adjustable as per the passenger's comfort to ensure smooth driving in different terrains.

All the gauges on the driver's side shall be large and easy to read. The central console may consist of an infotainment panel, heating-ventilation-air conditioning (HVAC) controls, and window switches like Gladiator's present model.

For the infotainment part, the new Gladiator is said to inherit Wrangler's features or the 2021 Jeep Gladiator. The touchscreen may differ in size as per the model variants from standard 5-inch to 7 and 8.4-inches. Two USBs and a USB-C port with a 115-volt outlet shall be standard for all variants. The infotainment system will feature Bluetooth and eight upgraded audio speakers with an optional subwoofer and portable wireless speakers behind the back seat. Only the 7 and 8.4 inches infotainment systems shall have Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

The Powerful Engine Configuration

The 2022 Gladiator shall have a 3.6-liter V6 petrol engine capable of producing 285 horsepower and 260 lb/ft of torque. An optional 3.0-liter V6 diesel engine shall also be available, which will produce 260 horsepower and a hefty 442 lb/ft of torque.

The power shall reach the wheels through a six-speed manual transmission or an optional 8-speed automatic transmission with a 3.0-liter diesel engine. The standard version will be equipped with a rear-wheel drivetrain, while an all-wheel-drive will be optional.

The fuel economy of this vehicle is yet to be known, but if it were to be assessed in reference to the 2021 gladiator, it should give a figure of 16 mpg in the city and 23 mpg highway. The automatic version of Gladiator shall also score similar figures, if not more.

It will surely be interesting to see Jeep's comeback in the pickup truck segment after a long time. Since Wrangler is already a proven success, it can be safe to assume that its mechanical twin, Gladiator, shall also appeal to the adventure seekers. The long wheelbase and cargo bed of this automobile shall add more versatility with the endurance it already has from its lineage.
