Although the Jeep name is nearly synonymous with the rough-terrain ready Wrangler, the Grand Cherokee is Jeep’s best-selling SUV and one of the most popular vehicles in the United States. Although the model is one of the few that Jeep hasn’t completely revamped in the past five years or so, it remains a staple of the Jeep lineup, and a new update to the beloved classic is coming in the 2022 Jeep Trackhawk trim, according to redesign previews from Jeep.

For pairing off-road capabilities with daily driver enjoyability and utility, the Jeep Grand Cherokee is top-notch. To take that a step further, Jeep introduced the Trackhawk model on the Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT back in 2017 at the New York International Auto Show. The new model was designed to be the highest performance package trim offered on the Grand Cherokee as well as upping the ante on off-road readiness for the SUV.

The 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk has kept true to the standards set by Jeep in the past for the Trackhawk name. It promises a punch of performance power alongside a comfort-based interior.

Let’s take a closer look at the 2022 Jeep Trackhawk.

What Makes The Trackhawk Unique

Although some spy camera footage has seen from camouflage prototypes that the 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee will keep much of the same classic proportion and its iconic grille, it is difficult to tell exactly what body modifications will come with the 2022 Trackhawk trim option. In previous iterations of the Trackhawk, there were fewer body modifications as compared to mechanical ones.

The sometimes hard-to-spot changes to the outward appearance of the Trackhawk included two badges: one on the tailgate that said “Trackhawk” and one that said “Supercharged” door. Additionally, the Trackhawk previously featured 20-inch rims as standard as well as yellow Brembo brake calipers, which are visible at certain angles.

The Trackhawk rides at a slightly lower (around one inch) clearance and has a quad-tip exhaust. Although none of these outward design alterations were very dramatic, you can expect Jeep to stick with the same general standards for the 2022 version.

Most of what makes the Trackhawk trim unique comes from inner components and mechanics. In prior versions, the Jeep Trackhawk package came with the optional Hemi V8 which previews have suggested will be upgraded as Jeep opts for the 6.2 liter Hellcat V8 for the 2022 version.

This will amp the original Trackhawk’s 707 horsepower up to 710. The 2021 iteration of the Trackhawk also boasted a 0-60 mph time of just 3.5 seconds with its Supercharged engine and launch control. It is likely that these same standards will be held in the updated version.

The 2022 model will also likely carry over many of the technological features of the previous model, such as the Quadra-Trac on-demand 4WD system to help maintain stability and maneuverability under the heavy torque from the larger engine. Additionally, on-screen gauges to demonstrate performance will also likely be available, possibly with more and newer features, on the 2022 Trackhawk.

If you’re interested in creature comforts, the Grand Cherokee is offering those as well and will likely continue to upgrade. The interior is roomier with the option of adding a third row of seats as of 2021. Additionally, previous Trackhawk editions were available with racing-inspired interiors such as optional black Laguna leather seats with bolsters. The headrests included “Trackhawk” logo stitching, and the seats also came with ruby red accent stitching.

The steering wheel in the Trackhawk version had a flat-bottom for a more race-reminiscent feel as well. All considerations that you can likely expect to be carried over or expanded on for the 2022 model.

How Much The 2022 Jeep Trackhawk Will Cost

According to previews of the 2022 Trackhawk, it will cost an astonishing $90,000 to own the powerful redesign. That is nearly three times the base price of the Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo, which comes in at just $35,000. Although other trims on the Grand Cherokee are available, they range up to $60,000 for the Summit L, still $30,000 shy of the Trackhawk’s MSRP.

Currently, the Grand Cherokee SRT is the highest priced 2021 model after the Trackhawk, available at around $70,000. The 2021 Trackhawk is around $87,600, so the newer model, along with any upgrades not yet revealed, is still competitively priced compared to the older models as you’ll likely be getting more features and power for around the same price.

The original debut of the 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk was delayed due to COVID-19 causing the cancellation of the Detroit Auto Show. It is likely that the reveal will happen mid to late 2021, and with it, the details on specific pricing, updates, and features will become more well-known, but you can be fairly certain based on the hints and the past model details that the Trackhawk will likely continue to hold its existing title as the most powerful SUV in the world.
