The Volkswagen ID. series launched in the fall with the ID.3 hatchback and ID.4 crossover SUV, both of which entered the market in September. Alongside several upcoming models, the ID. family has a plethora of concept vehicles due to enter production over the next few years. That includes the all-electric estate ID. Space Vizzion with a proposed driving range of 300-370 miles thanks to an 82kWh battery pack.

There is a lot we don't yet know about the ID. Space Vizzion but we hope for 270-360hp and acceleration of zero to 60 in five seconds. Initially, Volkswagen planned to release the ID. Space Vizzion in 2022, although it is now expected to be available in 2023.

Volkswagen aims to produce one million EVs by 2025 and the ID. Space Vizzion could play a meaningful role in pushing towards this goal if received well by the market. We look at the anticipated exterior, performance, and interior of this Volkswagen EV in the following guide. We'll also compare the ID. Space Vizzion with its potential competition.

Exterior And Performance

We're expecting about 300-370 miles of range with the ID. Space Vizzion. Some report a higher range estimate with Motor1 suggesting that the vehicle will offer a range of 435 miles, based on claims by Volkswagen CEO Ralf Brandstätter. However, this estimate may turn out to be too optimistic, with a figure in the 300s, more likely. Based on the Aero B concept vehicle, we hope to see the Space Vizzion offer a 111kWh battery back and a 272hp electric motor at its rear axle.

According to Volkswagen, there are considerations of adding a second motor at the front for a combined 350-360hp powertrain. If this were brought to fruition, the Space Vizzion would beat EVs like the 259hp Tesla X model for power. We expect the Space Vizzion to be about as spacious as the VW Phaeton and to feature a big trunk.

This EV should offer top performance all-round and fast-charging capabilities. With an aerodynamic design, VW aims for a drag coefficient of 0.24, with the vehicle set to have uniquely designed flow openings to enable direct airflow to the rear. According to the UK car buying comparison site, Carwow, the Space Vizzion will likely come with an equivalent starting price tag of about $55,000.

Interior And Infotainment

Volkswagen is aiming for a cutting-edge interior design with an AR head-up display and several mini displays. The immersive and intuitive experience of the Space Vizzion cabin with complimentary interactive ID. Light that will provide the driver with updates as they move through traffic could put it at the forefront of modern EV interiors.

We expect VW to offer an optically free-floating 15.6" diagonal touchscreen as part of their standard infotainment package. The space element of the vehicle's name will best be represented by its roominess and a premium quality lounge. Volkswagen plans to use sustainable raw materials with origins including apple juice production facilities.

There are many details we don't yet have, but what Volkswagen has said so far is compelling and has many of us eagerly waiting for more. Once we've got new info, we'll provide an up to date preview of the ID. Space Vizzion. We anticipate this EV to combine the roominess of a modern SUV with the aerodynamics of a Gran Turismo. This, alongside its expected qualities, could make the Space Vizzion a popular EV with buyers.

The I.D. Space Vizzion Vs Its Rivals

One likely competitor of the Space Vizzion is the Tesla Model S. With a starting MSRP of $70,620 to $140,690 across the Tesla's three trims, the Space Vizzion could be a lot cheaper. However, across variants, the Model S offers between 348 and 520 miles of range with a single charge. Also, with zero to 60 acceleration possible in a ferocious 2.4 seconds and up to 1100hp  available with its muscular Plaid trim, Tesla's EV offers a superior performance.

Given the price difference, the Space Vizzion will suffice for most buyers, but the Model S certainly offers better value for money. The Model S is also a more agile vehicle. That said, we'll need further information to give a more concise comparison between these Volkswagen and Tesla models. The low cost of the Space Vizzion will likely make it a strong and perhaps equal contestant with several upcoming EVs such as the Lucid Air and the Porsche Taycan.

Given its cost, the VW will arguably offer better bang for your buck than EVs like the Audi e-tron, a vehicle that, while cheaper than the other rivals mentioned, offers only 222 miles of range. Either way, the Space Vizzion will probably be up there, battling among the top EV competition on the market later this decade. Volkswagen initially planned to debut the vehicle this year, but due to Covid-19, the Space Vizzion is likely to hit the market in 2023.
