The electric revolution is at an all-time high with more and more automakers pitching in their fair share of this cake. The recent trend has been to bifurcate electric vehicles into a sub-brand to create an EV-centric segment. These include e-Tron from Audi, i-Series from BMW, EQ from Mercedes-Benz, ID from Volkswagen, and the freshest ones on the block - IONIQ from Hyundai.

The IONIQ nameplate has evolved from a sedan into a radical new EV sub-brand with the 2022 IONIQ 5 being their very first offering. There are more coming your way from the IONIQ brand, including IONIQ 6 sedan and a full-blown IONIQ 7 SUV. But IONIQ 5, first on this list, is an exciting proposition that has been touted as a crossover but has the stance of a hatchback.

Morover it has a longer wheelbase than Hyundai's flagship SUV - the Palisade. Sustainability and comfort are the prime focus for the IONIQ 5 as it used loads of reused and recycled elements including leather and plastics. The 2022 IONIQ 5 will lock horns with the likes of the 2021 Volkswagen ID.4, the 2021 Ford Mustang Mach-E, and the 2022 Nissan Ariya. Tesla Model Y remains the one to beat in the States.

2022 IONIQ 5 is the very first offering from Hyundai's EV sub-brand and is already a future classic. The launch is slated for Fall 2021, and expect a starting MSRP of $45,000.

Talking of the electric driving range, the standard 68 kWh pack has an est. range of 282 miles and the 77.4 kWh pack has 342 miles o the WLTP cycle.

Another interesting feature of the IONIQ 5 is its Bi-directional charging capacity. With the Vehicle-To-Load feature, you can convert the IONIQ 5 into a moving generator. It allows you to charge and use almost all home appliances with a 3.6 kW max output. The ports are located on the outside and under the 2nd-row seats.
