Lamborghini flagships have always had an unmistakable road presence thanks to their crazy looks and boisterous engines. This wasn’t always the case with Lamborghinis of the past. Back in the day, Lamborghini wasn’t just about crazy looks since Ferruccio wanted a direct competitor to the Ferrari Berlinettas.

It wasn’t until the Miura that Lamborghini shifted their entire ethos to flamboyance. A few years later, the Countach took the idea and turned it into eleven. Fast forward a couple of decades, and we’re at the Lamborghini Aventador. There’s no doubting how crazy this car is despite it being over 10 years since its introduction.

In typical Lambo fashion, we should expect its successor fairly soon. The Murcielago replaced the Diablo after 10 years, and so did the Aventador. Therefore it’s safe to say that the Aventador’s successor is just around the corner.

Carwow has enlightened us with updates of the upcoming Aventador replacement. The successor is expected to be as brutish-looking as the existing model and will feature the mighty V12, albeit with hybrid assistance. Reports suggest the Aventador successor is slated for a 2023 release, although Lamborghini has yet to confirm details of its upcoming V12 flagship. Here’s what we know so far.

Lamborghini Aventador Replacement To Get A Naturally Aspirated V12 With Hybrid Power

The Aventador is nothing short of a masterpiece. Several iterations have been introduced, all of which feature the Audi-developed 6.5-liter naturally aspirated V12. While the LP-700 had around 700 horsepower, models like the Aventador S saw the figure jump to 740, with the SV having 750 horsepower, SVJ getting 770 horses, and the might 2022 Aventador Ultimae topping out at 780 horsepower. Every model saw the rather clumsy 7-speed single-clutch taking care of transmission duties, albeit with revised shift times.

However, all these are likely to see an upgrade in the upcoming V12 flagship. For starters, the single-clutch transmission would be scrapped in favor of a modern and faster dual-clutch box. Secondly, the V12, per CEO Stephan Winkelmann, will be a completely new unit. Although, we reckon it could be a revised version of the existing powerplant, with more power, of course. Additionally, expect the sort of hybrid assistance featured in the Lamborghini Sian hypercar to find its way into the Aventador replacement. Also, Carwow reckons the supercar could likely be a PHEV and have an AWD system similar to the Ferrari SF90 (electric motors up front and ICE driving the rear wheels). Meaning the total output could go well beyond 1,000 horsepower. Although, nothing’s concrete as of yet.

Expect The Aventador’s Successor To Be An Absolute Stunner

If there’s one thing that’s certain of Lamborghinis, it’s design. The visual drama of a Lamborghini remains unparalleled in the supercar world. From the scissor doors to its sharp lines and menacing looks, the sense of occasion is otherworldly when we’re talking Lambos. As for what to expect, remember the Reventon special? A tradition Lamborghini introduced with the Reventon was the inclusion of design elements that hinted at the exterior features of their upcoming flagship V12.

For instance, the Reventon’s sharp nose with two large air dams was replicated in the Aventador, albeit with subtle tweaks. A similar relation can be seen at the rear, with the Aventador having a near-identical design, although not as sharp as the Reventon. With the Aventador’s successor expect a mix of design features from the Centenario, Sian, and possibly the Terzo Millenio.

That’s what Carwow has done with their renders. There is a mix of Sian at the front, with hints of Centenario at the rear. Further cementing that possibility are the various leaks circulating the internet. Spotters have found the Aventador’s successor during testing. Heavily camouflaged, the supercar has Centenario’s rear lights, with quad exhaust tips exiting from the center. The side air intakes seem noticeably wider than the existing Aventador Ultimae, and the front has lighting elements similar to the Sian hypercar. Although it’s hard to tell at this point, what we can say in confidence is that the design will most certainly be a visual treat.

When Should You Expect The Aventador Replacement’s Arrival?

While reports point to a 2023 release, expect the Aventador successor to be slightly delayed, given the supply-chain issues and chip shortages. 2024 is likely to be a realistic launch date, although nothing is certain at this point. We reckon the Aventador replacement’s reveal can happen mid-next year, while customer deliveries could start at the end of 2023 or early 2024. And no, it won't be called the Aventador replacement.

Expect Lamborghini to conjure up a name with strong relations to some form of fighting bull, which has been the case for many decades. Recall the Lamborghini Veneno? It was named after one of the most fearsome bulls ever, one that was so strong and aggressive that it killed a matador. Only Lamborghini could devise such drama and theater over a name.
