Westen Champlin of the YouTube channel bearing the same name gives a peek at the car he is building for the upcoming Roadkill Nights show in Detroit. Last year, Dodge gave Westen and his crew a brand new Hellcat Charger to put his unique touch on and turn it into a proper drag car. Westen put in twin turbos, raising the power output to 1300 hp, and it is since known in the community as Helljet due to its distinctive army-bomber-style paint job.

Dodge One Ups Themselves

This year, Dodge is not giving Westen a full car, but instead a crate engine. Westen slaps the engine, telling us that this is a 6.2-liter supercharged Demon engine. He smiles and acknowledges the elephant in the room, “we've modified it a lil bit” he says.

Westen's only issue is finding a car to put it in. He decides on a Dodge Challenger, which he was planning on modifying but with a bit of a twist. The car is missing a lot of major components, such as the engine, drivetrain, full suspension, and wheels. Westen was planning to build a Mud Bogger and slapping some 44-inch tires on it, but when Dodge duty comes, Westen answers the call and is sacrificing this build (at least until after the show) to make Dodge proud.

Building Hellcats Is Easy

Westen tells us while mounting the engine to the cross member that building Hellcats comes easy now. It's just like putting Lego together. You can mix-match whatever you want on these cars. “As long as you feather it and are delicate, it comes easy,” he says while marrying the engine to the car. At the same time, his crew is yelling to watch, so the struts don't hit anything while the pairing is happening. So much for delicate and feathering.

The Goodies For The Westen Built Challenger Demon

Westen gets to the goodies at the 2:55 mark in the video, where he shows a group of boxes. Opening up the first box, we can see a massive ice box that keeps the intercooler and engine cool pre-race. The next box is an upgraded fuel pump that is capable of providing the engine with a constant rate of fuel up to, 2,000 hp. He also shows us a wheel hop eliminator kit which helps provide grip straight off the line, which is a necessity when dealing with a car with 1,500 hp. The last boxes contain some Weld Racing Forged Skinnies.

Once the car is complete and running, Westen brings it to an old friend for some detail work and test drives the car saying it's “a hell of a good car” but with more of that to come in the next video. We can't wait to see the car at the Roadkill Nights show, nor can we wait to see the car on 44" Mud Boggers. Which do you prefer?
