While the newest iteration of the Toyota Sequoia is comparable to the Chevrolet Tahoe, each maintains its own distinct look and feel, which also applies to its aspects, features, and add-ons. Both vehicles have relatively new platforms and designs they use as their base, and both models have prominent technology featured throughout the interior. Safety equipment and space allotment have also been factored in as part of both vehicles' development. However, the minor details and quirks between the two vehicles differ, albeit not to a dramatic extent.
Read on to find more about the similarities and differences between the 2023 Toyota Sequoia and the Chevrolet Tahoe.
Toyota Sequoia Vs Chevrolet Tahoe: The Solid Foundations
Each model has a reliable chassis that served as the base for its manufacturing, and both models have new aspects to them. Full-size SUVs are more in demand, so both models have revamped and revitalized their image.
The Tahoe used a new design for a chassis that the Suburban also shared. Two of the main points of this new design were an independent rear suspension and longer wheelbase to improve handling and increase smoothness of the ride on bumpy or otherwise uneven payment. Also, other elements would later be factored in, such as exterior proportions, storage room, passenger accommodations, and driving dynamics, all in the name of catering to the full-size SUV demographic. The independent rear suspension is part of the improved driver dynamics, with Magnetic Ride Control also available. More legroom is available for passengers, and the seating position itself is far more comfortable than in other previous Chevrolet models.
The 2023 Sequoia is also a bit new with regard to the chassis, as it was also completely redesigned from previous iterations of the Sequoia. The new frame used for the Sequoia is somewhat shared with the latest Tundra and Land Cruiser models, with the primary goals including better handling, superior comfort, and improved capabilities. The Sequoia has a powerful twin-turbo V6 hybrid i-FORCE MAX powertrain that was previously used on the Tundra, giving off 583 lb.-ft. of torque and 437 HP. This powertrain was incorporated to give Sequoia the edge over the competition, such as the Tahoe, and the design is made to increase both efficiency and performance. The Sequoia also has an independent front suspension, complete with a new rack-mounted electronic power steering system that will improve the feel of steering.
Toyota Sequoia Vs Chevrolet Tahoe: Tech And Features
Both models have emphasized the latest technology for use in both infotainment and practicality while driving.
For example, the Tahoe has 12.6-inch diagonal LCD color touch-screens available, and the infotainment system provides connectivity for passengers with a Wi-Fi connection and a 10.2-inch diagonal center screen. Further, Google is to thank for a lot of Tahoe's technology. Google Play is also part of the package, allowing users to download apps to their vehicle just as they would to their smartphone. Google Assistant is included, letting drivers perform a range of functions hands-free, such as adjusting temperature, setting reminders, and making calls. Google Maps allows drivers to redirect their traffic routes at a moment's notice and also get real-time traffic updates should traffic jams or crashes arise.
A new digital vehicle platform is to thank for the functionality of these technologies, as this platform can process data at five times the rate of its predecessor platforms. Chevrolet even claims that their infotainment system “is the centerpiece and it leads major competitors.” A bold claim, to be sure, but it's not without evidence to back it up.
That said, Sequoia is hardly lacking in the infotainment and technology department. The multimedia system that made its debut in the Tundra returns here, complete with either a large 8-inch or available 14-inch touchscreen as the centerpiece of the system. Toyota's Connected Technologies team is in charge of designing the system, and it uses touch, sight, and voice activation technology to enhance a user's driving experience. Tasks such as searching for directions, adjusting audio controls, and changing temperature inside the Sequoia. For audio, Bluetooth connectivity is available, complete with an optional Wi-Fi connect subscription that can connect up to five devices. Further, Apple Music and Amazon Music subscriptions can be linked to the Sequoia.
Toyota Sequoia Vs Chevrolet Tahoe: Safety
Both models may have their own take on safety features, but both models share a fair amount of them. The Tahoe features Chevy Safety Assist, which incorporates multiple features into one convenient package. These features include automatic emergency braking, forward collision alert, front pedestrian braking, lane departure warning, and following distance indicator. A tailgating alert is also provided should the driver follow another vehicle too closely, and a lot of these functions are boosted through the use of camera technology.
Toyota has its own counterpart to this feature called Toyota Safety Sense. This feature has improved pedestrian detection that can detect not only oncoming vehicles, but also oncoming pedestrians. Emergency steering assist also helps detect pedestrians, as well as stabilize the driver's steering at a moment's notice. High beams and low beams alternate in the Sequoia thanks to a feature called Automatic High Beams, which allows the light level to change based on the presence of oncoming vehicles.
Toyota Sequoia Vs Chevrolet Tahoe: Space
Space is meticulously arranged in both vehicles to maximize efficiency and effectiveness for the driver and passengers. As mentioned before, Tahoe's new wheelbase is wider, allowing for more cargo space. What's interesting here is that while the length increase compared to previous Tahoe models was only 4%, the maximum cargo room increased by 30%, allowing for more efficiency with space allotment. Chevrolet pointed out how their Tahoe has more usable space than their competitors' vehicles, such as the Ford Expedition. The Tahoe also has a second row capable of sliding 10 inches either forward or backward.
The 2023 Sequoia has a similar development, with a third row capable of sliding six inches either forward or backward. The Sequoia can also rearrange its three rows accordingly for passengers or cargo, and the third row folds down to accommodate an increase in cargo. Overall, Sequoia has increased its space by 22% compared to previous iterations.
