Dodge was the first automobile manufacturer to establish the pickup truck niche about 15 years back when it launched the Dodge SRT-10. Unfortunately, it did not work well for the Dodge as the model was unsuccessful. However, the Dodge SRT-10 opened up the gateway for the niche segment where future hardcore models came along, such as the Ford Raptor and Chevy Colorado ZR2. Now, Dodge wants to pounce back into this highly competitive segment with the Ram Rebel 1500 TRX.

About four years ago, Ram released the Rebel TRX concept at the State Fair of Texas where it made the noise of its arrival on the international level. Many pickup truck lovers are waiting for a truck to arrive for more than four years. It is claimed to be the toughest and strongest of all RAM models.

Under the hood, the Ram TRX has a 6.2 Liter supercharged V-8 HEMI Hellcat engine, which is capable to generate 707 horsepower and 650 lb-ft torque. The Ram 1500 TRX can hit 0-60 MPH in just 4.5 seconds with a top speed of 118 MPH. Due to the high-speed twin-screw supercharger and eight-speed high torque capacity automatic transmission, the Ram TRX can hit this mark effortlessly. The engine can clock up to 6,200 rpm with electronic control. The truck is estimated to deliver around 6.38 Km/l in the city and 8.93 Km/l on the highways.

When the power goes to all four wheels, Ram TRX offers multiple drive modes. The modes change things like the four-wheel-drive system, throttle response, gear changes, suspension, and electric power steering. The Ram TRX has five on-road drive modes, such as auto, sport, tow, snow, and custom; also, there are three off-road modes, such as Mud/ Sand, Rock, and Baja. The suspension system of the Ram TRX is made up using high-strength steel with a new frame design. It is equipped with an independent front setup and a Dana 60 Solid rear axle. However, it does not include traction control like Ford, which may be necessary when the truck goes on off-road terrains. Moreover, the 2021 TRX has a new front and rear 2.5-inch Bilstein Black Hawk E2. The best thing for many buyers is that the TRX will be able to tow up to whopping 8,100 pounds.

The TRX looks aggressive with its completely different design compared to the Ram 1500. It has a masculine look due to its big black Ram logo and all-black unique TRX-specific Grille in black mesh, which improves the air intake system. Ram TRX comes with seven different exterior shades. The front fascia has also been updated, which includes a massive hood scoop, and a steel bumper. The single body overall length is around 232.9 inches, 88 inches in width, 80.9 inches in height, and a curve weight of a mere 5300 pounds. The 2021 Ram TRX is a mere eight inches wider than the Ram 1500 due to composite fender flares, which cover the 325 mm wide, 35-inch Goodyear Wrangler tires. Also, the Full-LED Adaptive Front-lighting System adds feather to a cap. Apart from this, there are four oversized hooks, two hooks in the front and rear. The dual five-inch exhaust outlets at the rear fascia make it stunning from the back. The truck offers a tougher look by providing off-road side steps, factory-installed rock rails, bed-mounted spare tire carries, and a ram-bar.

Inside the Ram, TRX gives a feeling of a cherry on a cake because it gives a feel of a premium and luxurious cabin that can put even premium sedans to shame. The carbon black and red surfaces with cloth and vinyl accents are similar to the Rebel. Ram also offers the TRX with a dual-pane panoramic sunroof. Coming to the technologies inside the truck, it features a massive 12-inch center console with facilities, such as Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and Sirius XM. One can also find a USB, a wireless charging dock, type A and C ports. The seats of the truck are heated and ventilated. There are also embroidered logos on the seats, and a ladder strap system on the seat-back for storage. The steering wheel features a flat bottom and paddle shifters. Considering the safety, TRX’s braking system consists of two-piston Monobloc calipers upfront, stopping 15-inch inverted-hat vented rotors. The parking brake is electronic. The rear back camera, electronic stability control, and six airbags are given as standard facilities.

Costing & Competitors

The cost of the Ram 1500 TRX starts at 69,995 dollars plus a 1,695 dollars destination charge. Ram introduced another launch edition, which is having a price of around 90,315 dollars and is limited to just 702 units. Despite this heavy pricing, the launch edition got sold out within the 4 hours after the bookings opened. It is only available in one shade of Anvil Grey color. Due to this heavy pricing, it is on a higher level than the Ford F-150 Raptor in terms of specifications, performance, and features. Certainly, Ram TRX will give tough competition to the Ford Raptor, and buyers will have to look at every inch of both trucks. Ford Raptor is far behind the TRX in terms of performance but strong road presence and public choice is a huge benefit for Ford.

The Dodge Ram TRX can become a raptor killer that all fanatics have been waiting for. The truck will offer a smooth on-road and off-road drive, brilliant handling capabilities, and a sense of richness in the interior.
