The Hoonigan teamThe Hoonigan team are most well known for their regular drag racing videos, most notably their This vs That series and the 'Hoonicorn vs The World' series. But they also like to show off other people's builds now and again. In their latest episode of Build Biology, hosted by Ron, Hoonigan are taking an in-depth look at an incredible Honda S2000 that is now a Tesla converted car with some 500 hp courtesy of its new electric drivetrain.

Unlike Any S2000 In The World

The video opens with Ron saying this car is “unlike any S2000 I have ever seen.” And we can certainly say the same too. This car comes from Ryan of Rywire Motorsports Electronics, and this is one of their most insane builds. This car was a 2007 S2000, and Ryan wanted to create his own EV, his first one, for himself. At the front it has an integrated lip into its bumper, with a sporty style looking like it very much belongs on an EV. As you can see, it is a bit VW ID themed, and it suits the design of the S2000 quite well.

A Whole Load Of Electric Horsepower

Under the hood is where all of this electric magic happens. The S2000 has a single large Tesla drive unit, with a bit motor driving board, an inverter and the one-speed transmission. When Ryan babysits the car, he is actually able to get some 120 miles of range out of the car, although that will go down a lot if you are racing the car. The car runs on a 12-volt system with Chevrolet Volt packs in the hood area, and this all adds up to give the car some 500+ hp, which is pretty incredible.

Other Incredible Details On This S2000

There are some other pretty cool details on the S2000. The fenders, for example, are slightly wider than stock and are pretty fantastic. Then we see the wheels, which look very different with the custom rims that look very much like an electric wheel. The aim was to reduce the drag coefficient as much as possible. The wheels are actually inspired by wheels from a Porsche 966 Turbo that had an entire wheel spoke lobbed off effectively. The wheels were initially a bit of a joke, but on this car they look pretty smart and incredible, as does the whole car.
