Ferrari holds a special place in the hearts of almost all automotive enthusiasts across the globe. Their cars have superb performance, unmatched styling, and oftentimes, drive like a dream. While many people may find themselves in agreement with these notions, any real Ferrari connoisseur knows that the love for the brand goes far deeper than just aesthetics and power.

Ferrari has a rich heritage that is filled with Formula One races, colorful and powerful figures, commitment to excellence, and of course, the Tifosi. Since its inception, the supercar idol has accrued a library of memorable moments and achievements to share with both its consumers and fans. In turn, this has given the brand-legendary status in the eyes of many.

Clearly, those who truly love Ferrari are very passionate about the brand. Because of this, when Ferrari debuts a new model, they need to ensure that it truly is worthy of the Ferrari name. Failure is not an option. Thankfully, it appears that Ferrari was able to get it more than right, with their convertible supercar: The Portofino.

Let's get into why the Portofino is more than worthy to be awarded that Ferrari badge.

It's Powerful

No Ferrari is complete without a properly powerful engine. Despite the fact that the days of the V-12 and V-10 seem to be coming to a close, enthusiasts should still be happy with the Italian outfit, as they have placed a throaty 3.9-liter V-8 under the hood of the Portofino. For added measure, they have also taken the liberty of providing the Portofino with two turbo-chargers.

Like that of its predecessor, the California, the Portofino was created for the purpose of being a grand touring style supercar. As such, the engine is mounted at the front and sends all of its 592 HP to the rear wheels. A 7-speed Magna 7 DCL dual-clutch automatic transmission is then tasked with assisting in the delivery of this power.

At full chat, the car can be launched from 0-60 MPH in as little as 3.5 seconds. If you keep your foot pressed hard into the floorboards, you’ll hit 100 MPH in about 10.8 seconds. Continue on and you’ll eventually see the speedometer rocket up to just a hair below 200 MPH.

It's Luxurious

Due to the Portofino’s dedication to being a grand touring supercar, the car has quite an emphasis on comfort. For starters, the car has specially softened (yet sporty) suspension throughout the chassis. Additionally, driving modes are aplenty and can be tuned and changed to fit whatever driving style you’re craving that day.

In addition to the driving modes, you’ll also find plenty of other features to keep you occupied while you drive your Portofino. This includes features like that of the 10.2-inch entertainment system that sits smack dab in the middle of the dashboard. Like every car nowadays, the system allows you to connect your phone, link your Spotify, and use GPS navigation.

To the right of the entertainment system is an additional screen that rests right in front of your passenger. Various metrics like that of engine speed, vehicle speed, gear selected, and navigation settings are displayed on this monitor. Ferrari claims this is to allow your passenger to feel more involved within the Ferrari experience.

To further add to the luxurious feel of the Portofino, a convertible top has been equipped. This allows for the driver to take in all the sights, sounds, and even smells of various areas they travel through. On chilly days, occupants will appreciate the wind deflector, as it cuts down 30% of air-flow into the cabin. When one begins to experience a little bit too much of the outside, they can retreat to the comfort of their Italian supercar by closing their retractable hardtop.

It's Sexy

One of the key hallmarks of any memorable Ferrari is the ability to wow anyone who bears witness to it. Ferraris that are known to have this factor are models like that of the F-40, 250 GT Berlinetta Lusso, and the 250 GTO. So, where does the Portofino stand?

Well, unlike most supercars of today, the Ferrari Portofino is delightfully understated. On this car, you will not find any crazy vents in the bonnet, nor' any oddly shaped aero bits. Instead, you’ll be greeted with a tasteful, more sculptured design, a design that favors the eyes more than your adrenal medulla. In the words of Road and Track’s Chris Perkins: “It's a beautiful car for beautiful people”.

It's Perfect

Ferrari has clearly taken the time to make this car as near close to perfection as they possibly can. The Portofino does everything you could ever ask for in an entry-level Ferrari; it plays the part, sounds the part, and looks the part. In every facet of the word, the Portofino is a supercar. For these reasons, the Ferrari Portofino is truly worthy of that Ferrari badge it so proudly displays.
