Fans of the original Impala SS must have been excited when they saw the Impala SS badge was resurrection at the 1992 Detroit Auto Show, which was announced as a concept car. It was two inches lower to the ground than the previous Chevy ride, the Caprice. The concept design features a bigger and louder 8.2-liter engine. Yet, the final model for production was kit out with a smaller (but still loud and powerful) 5.7-liter V8, which was taken from the fourth-generation Corvette.

Essentially, Chevy's second-generation Impala SS car was like a high-performance version of the Caprice, as it was heavily based on the Caprice 9C1 police package. Similar features include sport-tuned suspension with reinforced shocks and springs, a high-capacity reverse-flow cooling system, four-wheel disc brakes, a transmission cooler, and dual exhaust. Just like the police package of the Caprice, the Impala SS models from 1994 to 1996 offer a higher-output electrical system.

As a result of this package and the 5.7-liter engine, the 1996 Impala SS could make a whopping 260-hp. Although the prototype, which features an 8.2-liter engine could offer more than 300-hp, the 260-hp offering is still very impressive.

In the current market, the 1996 Chevrolet Impala SS has a reasonable price. Average prices of 1996 start at around $2,700. For such a classic ride, this price really is outstanding. There aren't many iconic rides that you will find on the market for under $3,000.

The better condition 1996 Impala SS models might sell for more, but this is their general price point. It is a highly sought-after ride from Chevrolet as it was the last model from the brand's seventh generation. Yet, the price is really not as high as it could be.

It is easy to spot a 1996 model from the previous years. The last year saw minor yet obvious interior alterations. This includes the digital speedometer being replaced by an analog one, along with a tachometer. The shifter was also moved from the column to the center console, and the engine was given an OBD-II computer control system.

In summary, today's market price of the 1996 Chevrolet Impala SS is quite surprising. It is a popular classic ride, which we think could easily go for more. Nonetheless, nobody can complain as it means the final model of the Impala SS is quite achievable on any budget, that's if you can find one.
