Grey's Anatomy focuses on the lives of surgical interns, residents, and attending physicians, as they develop into seasoned doctors while trying to maintain personal lives and relationships.

The original cast consisted of nine star-billed actors: Ellen Pompeo, Sandra Oh, Katherine Heigl, Justin Chambers, T. R. Knight, Chandra Wilson, James Pickens Jr., Isaiah Washington, and Patrick Dempsey. The cast has undergone major changes through the series' run, with many members leaving and being replaced by others.

The series' success catapulted such long-running cast members as Pompeo, Dempsey, and Oh to worldwide recognition; they were among the top five highest-earning television actors in 2013.

In truth though, we don't really care about any of that. Oh no, we're just interested in what they drive off the set. There are some people on the show who have a well-known car and driving addiction, such as Dempsey, who's gone on to become almost as famous for his racing as he is for his acting.

Then there are those who don't seem to care what they're seen driving in, or perhaps that's just what they want us to believe? We've seen the study that says most Prius owners care more about how they're perceived than about the gas mileage. Yeah, that's right, we're on to your tricks Hollywood!

Alright, no more talk, let's just get straight to it and take a look at what the cast—both old and new—of Grey's Anatomy is driving off the set.

20 Eric Dane - Ferrari FF

via Just Jared

Eric Dane became famous for playing Dr. Mark Sloan on Grey's Anatomy. In 2005, he guested as Dr. Mark Sloan, nicknamed "McSteamy" by Meredith Grey. Positive audience reaction to the character led to Dane becoming a regular in the show's third season. His first appearance in the season, he walked out of the bathroom soaking wet and wearing only a strategically placed towel; it just makes sense that he'd drive some exotic fast car.

His Ferrari FF is a grand tourer and Ferrari's first production four-wheel drive model. The body style is what's known as a shooting-brake, a type of sporting hatchback/estate car with two doors. The FF has a top speed of 208 mph and can accelerate from 0 to 62 mph in 3.7 seconds.

19 Mandy Moore - Prius

via Celebmafia

Moore guest-starred as Mary Portman in the ABC medical drama Grey's Anatomy in the sixth-season finale, called "Death and All His Friends"—her first television role since 2007. She would also return to the show for three episodes of the seventh season.

While Moore has sold more than 10 million albums worldwide as well as being an actress, her car really isn't anything special. She drives the stereotypical Hollywood-saves-the-world-car, a Prius, a car people seem to either love or hate. Kind of sad really, we sure wish she would've gone for something a little more exciting. Then again, it's perfect if she wants to stay somewhat anonymous.

18 Patrick Dempsey - Porsche 356

via Pinterest

To some, Patrick Dempsey is best known for his role as neurosurgeon Derek "McDreamy" Shepherd in Grey's Anatomy. To us, he's more known for his racing career. Dempsey is almost up there with Paul Newman when it comes to being both a Hollywood superstar and a racer, they're both nearly as famous for their racing as for their acting.

His first car was a 1963 Porsche 356, a car he still owns and drives regularly. Unlike most "356 Porsches" out there, his isn't a fiberglass replica. Most of the cars in his collection are Porsches - he used to daily drive a 911 Targa GTS, saying he loved the retro styling.

17 Levin Rambin - MPV

via Pinterest

Leven Rambin is still fairly young, but she's starred in lots of movies and TV shows including Grey's Anatomy. Leven is is a fashion enthusiast and has written several editorials on New York Fashion Week for Paper Magazine and Page Six, which makes us question why she's so often photographed next to some sort of van or MPV—hardly the most stylish cars out there.

Perhaps she's just so cool that she doesn't need a flashy car? At least her fashion and flash cars came together when she attended the Mercedes-Benz Presents Famous Cars & Famous People at Drive-In Studios in New York City.

16 Scott Elrod - Private Jet And Motorcycles

via Article Bio

Elrod has said it was the movie Top Gun that inspired him to become an actor. He also wanted to be a fighter pilot though, so he earned his pilot license after graduation and then became an air traffic controller. He also has his own jet, so we guess he doesn't have to pay a pilot to take him wherever he wants to go.

Elrod likes to go fast when he's on the ground as well, having raced both cars and motorcycles. It goes without saying that Scott Elrod is our kind of guy, but we'd probably struggle to keep up.

15 Ellen Pompeo - Tesla Model S

via Daily Mail

Pompeo garnered worldwide recognition for her portrayal of the title character Dr. Meredith Grey. The role on the long-running series earned her a Golden Globe nomination and a Screen Actors Guild Award. In 2018, Pompeo became the third highest paid female and the fifth highest paid actor overall in 2018 with earnings of $23.5 million. She was also the highest ranked actor from a drama series on the list.

Obviously, she can afford to buy a cool car, which is probably why she's got a blacked-out Tesla Model S. The Tesla is one of those divisive cars that most people have an opinion on. Still, the P100D has the fastest acceleration of any production vehicle with a NHRA rolling start to 60 mph in 2.28 seconds in ludicrous mode.

14 Jeffrey Dean Morgan - Corvette Grand Sport

via Twitter user @TWD__HQ

Jeffrey Dean Morgan has appeared in over 30 feature films, however, the bulk of his work has been in television, such as his role as Denny Duquette on Grey's Anatomy.

Jeffrey couldn't afford a car for the first decade he lived in LA, but he's more than made up for that by now.

Morgan got to drive the Chevrolet Corvette Grand Sport Pace Car for the 101st running of the Indianapolis 500. The Grand Sport featured a naturally aspirated LT1 6.2-liter V-8, with a dual-mode exhaust system, plus a dry-sump. This powerhouse produces a rather massive 460 horsepower at 6000 rpm, more than adequate for everyday driving.

13 Sandra Oh - Prius

via Zimbio

Sandra Oh is best known for her role as Cristina Yang, who she played from 2005 to 2014

Oh's long-running role on the show earned her a 2005 Golden Globe Award for Best Supporting Actress in a Series and a 2006 Screen Actors Guild Award for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Drama Series. In July 2009, she received her fifth consecutive Emmy nomination for her work on the series.

Such a great actress and such a terrible car. The large number of Prius-owning progressive celebrities prompted The Washington Post to dub hybrids "Hollywood's politically correct status symbol." A study found that 57% of Prius buyers said their main reason for buying was that "it makes a statement about me," while just 37% cited fuel economy as a prime motivator.

12 Jesse Williams - Audi

via The Hollywood Fix

On October 15, 2009, Williams began appearing as surgical resident Jackson Avery in the ABC television series Grey's Anatomy. On June 8, 2010, it was announced Williams would be a series regular, starting in season 7. BuddyTV ranked him No. 6 on its "TV's 100 Sexiest Men of 2010" list and No. 11 in 2011.

Of course, when you're one of the sexiest men in the world, you need a car to match your looks—and once again a German car would prove to be the weapon of choice for yet another cast member of the popular show. His Audi convertible should be the perfect mix of coolness, speed, quality, and safety—things all women want, right?

11 Scott Elrod - Chevy Bel Air Inspired Business

via Bankcl

Elrod has always had a passion for anything with an engine. The first time he rebuilt a car was with his dad at age 15. Elrod's is a bit more passionate about cars than the average enthusiast. He turned his automotive passion into a full-on automotive lifestyle when he started his company AutoConcierge in Los Angeles. He got the idea for the company when he realized there were very few options available for vehicle storage, at least none he'd consider handing off the keys to his Bel Air to.

His company focuses on dealing with every aspect of owning a rare or exotic vehicle, such as storage, transport, as well as maintenance services and vehicle care for all the cars that are housed in the Los Angeles compound.

10 Katherine Heigl - Audi Q5

via Celeb Financial Wealth

Heigl is not just an actress, she's also a film producer and former fashion model. Her role as Izzie Stevens on Grey's Anatomy though is one of her most significant performances. The role brought her significant recognition and accolades, including the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series in 2007.

Cruising around in an Audi Q5, we have to give her some props for choosing a car that has tons of style, yet it isn't so over the top or flashy that it makes her seem desperate for attention. Audis are a perfect fit for any occasion, something a former model surely would take into consideration.

9 Jeffrey Dean Morgan - Motorcycles

via Pinterest

In addition to Grey's Anatomy, Morgan has been starring on another show, The Walking Dead, where he's been hanging out with motorcycle fanatic Norman Reedus, and they've been going on bike rides together to unwind after filming.

In the second season of the unscripted docuseries, Ride with Norman Reedus, Morgan actually joins his buddy Reedus for a motorcycle trip through Spain, starting out in Barcelona before ending at the Falles Festival in Valencia.

Jeffrey Dean Morgan had no choice but to ride a bike for his first 10 years in LA as he couldn't afford a car. Over the years he became pretty good at it, and even takes his dog out with him when he goes for a ride on one of his Harleys.

8 Geena Davis - SUV

via Daily Mail

Geena Davis was one of the most popular actresses of the 1980s and 1990s, and she has received numerous accolades for her work in both film and television. While she was known for her portrayals of strong and authentic female characters, her career dried up when she was in her 40s. She took on the role of Dr. Nicole Herman in 13 episodes of Grey's Anatomy.

Looking at her dreary SUV, you'd never guess it belongs to the woman who once starred in Thelma and Louise, one of the most acclaimed road movies of all time. We guess driving a '66 Thunderbird convertible wasn't quite her style.

7 Patrick Dempsey Racing & Porsche 911 GT3 RSR

via Redbull

The owner of Dempsey Racing has paid his dues for a decade, steadily elevating from celebrity driver to respected competitor and podium finisher. In a partnership with Porsche, Dempsey Racing raced a breathtaking Porsche 911 GT3 RSR in the world’s top endurance races. In the process, Dempsey became the leading heir to such noted actor/driver heavyweights as James Garner, Steve McQueen, and Paul Newman.

He has competed in prestigious events such as the 24 Hours of Le Mans, Rolex 24 at Daytona, and Ensenada SCORE Baja 1000 off-road race. Prior to the 2013 24 Hours of Le Mans, Dempsey declared that he would walk away from acting and dedicate himself full-time to motorsports if he could. That's real passion.

6 T.R. Knight - Prius

via Just Jared

In 2005, Knight was cast as Dr. George O'Malley. When he auditioned for the show, he expected a one-season run. He ended up doing five seasons and received generally positive reviews for his performance as O'Malley. He was also nominated for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series at the 59th Primetime Emmy Awards.

While he might be an outstanding actor, we can not support his choice of car. It's a Prius. Sure, it's reliable, but it's pretty much one of the most boring cars Toyota has ever made, which really says a lot when you consider some of the dreary cars they've made over the years.

5 Justin Chambers - Porsche

via Pinterest

Chambers was a fashion model before he became an actor. His breakthrough role came in 2005 when he was cast as Dr. Alex Karev in Grey's Anatomy. Chambers gained widespread recognition as the series progressed and his character became one of the most popular on the show.

We don't know if it's because he's been hanging out with Porsche enthusiast Dempsey on the set of Grey's, but Chambers has been spotted driving several different versions of the Porsche 911 over the years. Clearly, he's a man with impeccable taste and a need for speed. He also has a BMW in his garage, perhaps for those days he needs to be a bit more sensible?

4 Patrick Dempsey Collection

via Pinterest

With such bona fide car-guy credentials, it's only natural that Patrick Dempsey would own a personal collection of four-wheeled beauties. He believes all cars should be driven, not just parked and looked at.

While known as a Porsche guy, he does have some cars in his collection that aren't from Stuttgart. A turquoise Jaguar E-Type convertible, another convertible in the form of a 1969 Mercedes-Benz 280SE, he had more than one Mercedes though—an SLS AMG that would top out at 197 mph, and a G-Wagen. And of course a bunch of Porsches, including a 997 GT3 RS, which is nothing short of being a road-legal race car.

3 Jessica Capshaw - Porsche

via Celebmafia

Jessica Capshaw is known to fans of the show as Dr. Arizona Robbins. She was introduced in the fifth season of Grey's Anatomy as an attending surgeon and the new head of pediatric surgery. Capshaw was originally contracted to appear in just three episodes, but her contract was then extended to the remainder of the fifth season, and in the sixth season she became a regular on the show.

Porsches seem to be popular with the cast of Grey's Anatomy, and Capshaw has been spotted around town driving one. While she doesn't drive one of the fastest and sportiest models, it's still one of Stuttgart's finest, and should offer more than enough performance for her commute to the set.

2 Taye Diggs - BMW X6

via Just Jared

Diggs has had a ton of movie and television appearances. He co-starred as Sam Bennett opposite Kate Walsh in Private Practice, the spin-off of Grey's Anatomy, and he also guest-starred on Grey's Anatomy in the Grey's Anatomy/Private Practice Crossover Event.

It's obvious that Diggs is a man who likes his German SUVs, currently driving a BMW X6. Previously he owned a Mercedes G-Wagen, but he destroyed that car in a solo wreck during a rainy night in West Hollywood. He walked away from that without a scratch, but the right front wheel on the Merc was torn off. Luckily for him, those Germans build some solid cars.

1 Christina Ricci - Mercedes

via Wannabemagazine

Grey's Anatomy might not be the first thing people think of when talking about Christina Ricci, but in 2006, she appeared as a paramedic in two episodes of Grey's Anatomy, for which she was nominated for an Emmy Award in the category of Outstanding Guest Actress in a Drama Series. We guess she must've done quite a good job then?!

As far as cars go, Ricci has been photographed with various Mercedes Benz's for years and even attended the Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week. We don't know if she has an endorsement deal with Mercedes, but we think she'd be an excellent brand ambassador.
