Instagram user jlord8 has provided an interesting visual of what could have been if Chevrolet decided to produce a 4-door version of its iconic sports car. In the rendering, a black C5 Corvette includes two extra doors to create a sedan version of the vehicle. View the post on Instagram to see the rendering to decide for yourself if this hypothetical car is one that Chevrolet should have made or if they were best to keep the Corvette true to its traditional form.

A Corvette Z06 Sedan

The words "Corvette" and "Sedan" are not typically ones you'll find together, though that is exactly what jlord8 created to form a visualization of a Corvette with space for passengers. The photo-shopped image stays true to the lines and overall shape of a C5, while discreetly adding in a second set of doors. The image draws a number of reactions in the comments on the post; many of them are positive, praising the look of the altered version of the fifth generation of the Corvette, produced from 1997 through 2004.

Throughout the Corvette's history, the nameplate has identified the iconic coupe and convertible as well as their various higher performance variations over the years. While a sedan has never been an option for a Corvette, there have been rumors in the past of Chevy expanding the Corvette nameplate to cover other vehicle types; not unlike Ford who used the Mustang name for the Mach-E EV crossover. The rendering of the C5 Z06 sedan gives fans of Chevrolet performance vehicles as well as those who appreciate sleepers and sport sedans something to ponder over.

Not As Far-Fetched As It Seems?

While a Corvette Sedan may not be in the plans for Chevrolet, the brand has produced high performance sedans in the not so distant past, including the Impala SS and the SS sedan, produced during model years 2014-2017. The SS sedan's 6.2L V8 engine power, shared with the C6 Corvette and RWD platform was, in many ways, similar to the type of vehicle that the C5 Z06 sedan would be. While the SS sedan was a rebadged Holden Commodore in actuality, it is probably the closest actual Chevrolet we will see to the C5 sedan rendering. As of late, Chevrolet has reduced the number of new sedans in their lineup to only the Chevy Malibu; though it does come with multiple engine and transmission options, it does not have a performance-oriented trim level at this time. The Camaro ZL1 and Corvette provide high performance driving experiences, but in two door form only.

General Motors hasn't shied entirely away from high performance sedans though, the Cadillac CT4 and CT5 each have variants aimed at achieving high speeds and adrenaline inducing driving experiences. Whether you are a fan of the C5 Z06 sedan rendering or not, it provides an interesting visual to a car that never existed, but a market just might exist for.
