This all-electric grand tourer from Audi is due to arrive by the end of the year. Despite Porsche and Audi working together, they compete traditionally with the RS e-tron GT set to rival the Porsche Taycan. The e-tron takes inspiration from the J1 platform, and though there are plenty of details yet to be announced, Audi's EV is likely to be fiercely competitive.
We expect the RS e-tron GT to accelerate from zero to 60 in just three seconds and achieve a top speed of about 155mph. Interior differences between the regular e-tron GT and the RS version include its specific displays and unique sporty seating. This electric vehicle will provide up to 589hp or 640 if overboost mode is used. The starting 2022 Audi RS e-tron GT price will probably be more than $150K.
The RS e-tron GT is a promising upcoming EV. We expect this grand tourer to be a high-quality, powerful, and fast-charging vehicle. Read on to find out what else we know about the exterior, performance, and interior of the RS e-tron GT. We'll also compare this vehicle with its possible rivals and touch on the Audi e-tron GT release date for the RS model.
The RS E-Tron GT Looks Set To Offer Great Bang For Your Buck
Despite the e-tron GT having a claimed curb weight of 4600lb, we expect this model to match many of the Taycan Turbo S qualities with similar dexterity and acceleration. It will feature a 94kWh battery as standard, rear-locking differential, two-speed transmission, and an electric motor for each axle.
In a speedy test drive on the Greek Island Rhodes, it was noticeable when it shifted up to second gear, but given that this shift change is more likely to occur at 45mph on a regular drive, we don't think this will prove to be much of a liability. The e-tron GT reached up to 135mph in its test drive, but it is expected to have an overall top speed of 155mph. We hope the e-tron GT will provide customers with light steering and a pleasant and relaxing experience on long-distance journeys. The e-tron GT will consist mostly of steel but a certain part will be made of aluminum.
The Interior of the RS E-Tron Is A Mixed Bag
The e-tron GT will have a standard panoramic roof and the option of a carbon-fiber roof. The cabin will come with a broad, angular, and horizontal dash to add a futuristic aesthetic and feel to this EV's interior. It will feature three back seats with sufficient room. However, the driver and passenger seats are a little low, as is the case with the Taycan, and overall interior space will be a little less than that of the current Audi four-door coupes.
Audi has talked about the possibility of a hatchback trim that would compete with the Taycan Cross Turismo variant. There will be 12 cubic feet of trunk space in the back and three cubic feet in the front trunk. The interior has its pros and cons, but it appears that Audi is going for a highly attenuated, glossy, low-lying, and modern cabin at the expense of something a bit roomier.
The RS E-Tron GT Will Take On EVs Like The Porsche Taycan
We anticipate that the e-tron GT will be a landmark vehicle, but that doesn't mean it won't have to prove itself against stern competition. Final pricing for Audi's upcoming EV has yet to be announced, but we expect its starting MSRP to be more than $150K and possibly around $160-165K to give a more precise estimate.
The Taycan will start at about $105K for the 4S trim, but you'd pay at least $152K for the Turbo or $186K for the Turbo S. The horsepower across the variants will range from 522hp to a robust 750hp with the Turbo S. The Taycan can achieve zero to 60mph in 3.4 seconds, about half a second slower than what is expected of the e-tron GT.
The Taycan will come with a 79.2kWh battery pack as standard but with the option of a 93.4kWh battery. As you can see, the Taycan has several advantages over the e-tron GT, but the opposite statement is also true on some fronts. The large steering wheel of the e-tron GT is a trait that distinguishes the Audi from Porsche's EV.
It is early days, and we'll have to see what else the e-tron GT has to offer but it's looking like the Taycan will provide better bang for your buck with all things considered. That said, the RS e-tron GT will possibly beat the Turbo S when it comes to value for money, given the expected price difference.
The Audi will attempt to rival Tesla's electric range, and given its performance qualities and horsepower in particular, the e-tron GT will have plenty of firepower to compete with Elon Musk's pioneering electric car company. We'll provide you with an updated look at the RS e-tron GT as soon as we have more details. The RS e-tron GT is due to arrive in US showrooms this summer before going on sale later in the year.
