Chevrolet has renewed the Corvette for another model year, planning to debut a revised version for 2022. It's getting a new appearance with minor to moderate upgrades, modifications, and alterations, complete with two new variants. Infotainment, engine, interior, and safety features take center stage thus far, as most information released at this point pertains to one of those four aspects. Also, there have been a lot of parallels and comparisons between the new Corvette and certain racecars, so the new model will be expected to deliver an impressive amount of both power and speed.

Changes, Updates, And Pricing Estimates

A few revisions are planned for the 2022 Corvette, though the pricing structure has not yet been completely confirmed. As this is the eighth-generation Corvette's third model year (hence the term Corvette C8), the time has come for upgrades, modifications, and alterations, albeit minor in some cases. Two variants are soon to emerge, known as the E-Ray and the Z06, both of which boast higher performance than earlier models.

New color combinations will be available for the Corvette, and several trim levels and packages will be available, each with small changes to equipment and features. The E-Ray is advertised as a plug-in hybrid that features all-wheel-drive, while the z06 has a superior suspension and sports a naturally-aspirated 5.5-liter V8 DOHC engine.

The pricing structure, while not official, is expected to be similar to that of its predecessors. The last Corvette had a base MSRP of $59,995, and a front-engine version cost an additional $25,000. Right now, most speculation for the 2022 model results in a combined cost for a base MSRP of $85,000 upon its eventual release.

Infotainment, Safety, And Interior

Several other features in the Corvette will receive a makeover for the 2022 model year, such as safety features, interior design, and the infotainment system.

First off, the interior will be a departure from previous models, featuring unusual elements such as a square steering wheel and climate-control buttons on the center control console. Other features for comfort include wireless charging, heated and ventilated seats, and a 12-inch digital gauge cluster.

All of this, of course, comes with the added accents of carbon fiber and microsuede plastered throughout the interior. The rear trunk will also be primarily known for being spacious, and the layout of seats and features will emphasize driver comfort and practicality. Infotainment updates were also a priority, as Chevy's Infotainment 3 Plus system will be the software of choice featured on the dashboard's eight-inch touchscreen.

Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and a Wi-Fi hotspot are already confirmed to be part of this new setup, as well as the Performance Data Recorder in case drivers want to record a log of their travels and experiences. Finally, safety features are also included, though the Z06 will have more than the base model. That said, blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert are confirmed safety features to be included on all the 2022 Corvette models.

Engine, Fuel Economy, And Transmission

The interior workings of the Corvette are also notable on several counts. The engine can reach between 8500 and 9000 RPM, thanks to its flat-plane crank.

As mentioned before, the engine will be a naturally-aspirated 5.5-liter V8, and it will be able to put out 600 horsepower with a loud noise emanating from it that's reminiscent of a Ferrari.

Torque is expected to be around 480 lb-ft. The transmission will be eight-speed, dual-clutch, and automatic, and the 2022 Corvette will also feature rear-wheel drive. It's also worth noting that the 2020 Corvette only could put out 495 horsepower.

The 2022 Corvette will also have a plethora of active aerodynamics incorporated to maximize downforce by default, and the Z06 variant will also have wider tires and more powerful brakes added to it.

Unfortunately, despite this output of information regarding the engine and other interior features, fuel economy remains a mystery for the moment, and Chevy has not yet released its expected fuel economy for either city or highway driving.

Other Options

While there won't be an abundance of additional options, Chevrolet did make a few available for the new Corvette. This goes double for the Z06 variant, which will take its cues from racecars like the finishing C8.Rs at the Daytona 24.

The aforementioned wider tires are an option expected to be popular. For an additional sum, carbon fiber wheels will be made available for the Z06. Magnetic Ride Control and gigantic carbon-ceramic brake rotors will also be an option for the Z06. These options are expected to increase the price by another $20,000 to whatever the final base cost will be.
