This show is the third American duplication of the original British TV show called Top Gear that debuted on the BBC. Top Gear UK has transformed to a critically acclaimed show and it was already renewed for series 29. It's fitting that the show was started in this country, as the United Kingdom has a track record of producing stunning cars. Since its inception, Top Gear UK has featured over ten hosts and has become engrained in British culture. Creating high-quality luxurious cars and filming a classic car show- this country was unstoppable.

American fans of the show were in luck: Top Gear USA premiered on History in 2011, and its sixth season concluded in 2016. In 2017, Top Gear America was featured on BBC America for one season. This time around, Top Gear America is only available on the MotorTrend app. The subscription costs $4.99 a month. A subscription means that viewers can also access Top Gear United Kingdom's episodes, all of the British show specials, and the three seasons of Top Gear: Extra Gear.

A new season means a new dream team. First up, we have actor Dax Shepard. The husband of Kristen Bell, Shepard appeared in the movies Let's Go to Prison and Hit and Run. According to MotorTrend, Shepard was a fan of the original Top Gear Show, saying that, "I feel like that's the one prerequisite the host should have. Cars are my full-time hobby."

Rob Corddry, an actor who has worked on The Daily Show with Jon Stewart, will additionally join Shepard. He expressed that he loved the original Top Gear show too. It's no doubt that he will bring humor to the show, as he said, "If we've ever given a script, I promise the viewers that I'm going to light it on fire and throw it away. So you can count on me for that, at least. I really think that the strength of this show is going to be an honest interplay between the three of us."

Lastly, writer Jethro Bovingdon will star in this remake. It's evident that there will be strong commentary throughout the show too, as Bovingdon's credibility as an automotive writer is impressive: His work has appeared in MotorTrend, Automobile, CAR, and evo. Bovingdon said, "I love cars, I love driving cars, and I love doing stupid stuff in cars. And if we get to do all of those things, I don't see how it can't be fun and fun to watch, really."

While Top Gear America was slated to debut this spring, the current events of 2020 postponed filming till the fall. Deadline reported that the show was primarily shot in Southern California, but the three hosts traveled to other parts of the West Coast too.

First things first, viewers can anticipate some entertaining jokes and fun rivalry between the three hosts. To illustrate, Bovingdon used to own an E36 BMW M3 GT and tried to finish one lap in under nine minutes while racing. Shepard is familiar with Road America and Road Atlanta, revealing that he had the opportunity to race in the Lamborghini Super Trofeo series at Lime Rock. Two experienced racers will guarantee some friendly conflict. Shepard said, "I think there'll be a lot of competition between Jethro and I, in a very loving way. Obviously, he'll win, and sometimes I'll win, and it'll be devastating when I lose, and I think that'll be fun for everyone to watch. Jethro's definitely got the seat-time advantage on me, and I've not driven any of those cars. I've never driven a McLaren or half the cars that he's driven.

While Bovingdon and Shepard have raced before, don't underestimate the car knowledge of Corddry and what he can describe while on-air. He owned a 1975 Ford Pinto Wagon before buying a Porsche 911 Carrera S. He told MotorTrend that, "Early on, in my experiences with cars at a very young age, I made a choice to not get all bogged down in the details. And just get psyched about cars in general. Yeah, I know what the different sizes of engines are and I understand where, but I don't bug myself with that."

Further, due to the pandemic, Top Gear America will truly live up to its name: There will be no international projects and the show will highlight American landscapes, as the outdoors will be the backdrop for car racing. After racing a car, the three hosts will evaluate the car's performance and discuss its capabilities. Stunts and tailored challenges will happen.

Here's something else to speculate- Top Gear UK has an anonymous driver called the Stig. The Stig has his own suit and helmet, but his identity is never revealed. In a MotorTrend article, Corrdry asked if he can wrestle the stig. Photos of the three hosts posing with the Stig also appeared. Perhaps the Stig will come across the pond and make an appearance on the American show!

Overall, viewers can anticipate races and hilarious exchanges between the three hosts as these men test out cars' speeds and push each car to its limit. Each host has a reputable background, and we're eager to hear their overall impressions of certain cars. We're adding Top Gear America to our ever-expanding watch list.
