To give Alpha credit where credit's due, considering they are a Californian start-up, they have certainly scored lots of headlines recently. Their PR department must be crazy busy right now.

And good on them for doing so. The automotive industry is competitive, to say the least, and its new vehicle, the Alpha Wolf Truck, is scoring many positive reviews. Top Gear referred to it as its favorite new pick-up. Now that's saying something!

In August, the new Alpha model made its debut at the Petersen Automotive Museum in Los Angeles. The Californian start-up has hinted that its new electric vehicle (EV) is on track to be released in 2023. It should come as no surprise that a start-up has jumped onto the EV bandwagon as they seem to be all the fashion at the moment.

According to Green Car Reports, it hasn't been cheap for Alpha to produce its new automotive beast. The Californian start-up complies with DOT and safety standards, and yet it costs in the vicinity of $2 billion to cover the Wolf's design, development and engineering, and get past the validation stage of production. Let us hope that the Alpha model does well and that this process was worth it.

On the market, the Wolf is expected to run between $36,000 and $46,000.

The Wolf has many promising features that give us so many reasons to love this model. So what are they? Let us find out!

In a video released by the Californian start-up, the employees state that the pickup is an all-electric model for two people. The EV will be available in two iterations - a single motor powering the rear wheels or a double electric motor setup running all four wheels. A 75 kW lithium-ion battery pack would reside within the floor, enabling it to travel 250-275 miles regarding its range.

It is claimed that the Wolf can sprint from 0-60 mph in 6.2 seconds, but we will learn more about its definite performance figures soon. The pickup may have a 3,000 lbs towing capacity, but again we are waiting to hear more about that.

This is going to be a small truck, measuring 203 inches (5,150 MM) long while sporting a 5.4 foot (1,652 MM) truck bed and seating for four people. The Wolf's styling is surprisingly minimalistic inside and out, claims Motor 1. The wide fender flares and massive, chunky tires provide it with a rugged appearance, though the pick-up retains the company's retro-orientated theme. The inside is also minimalistic, with two screens placed on the flat dash - one for the instrument cluster and the other for the infotainment display. The only recognizable switchgear is on the steering wheels.

There is no specific information about the pick-up's accessories, but photos display a roof-top basket, an extra-long bed extender, a solar panel fits in the bed, and a big tent covering the pick-up bed and extending out behind the vehicle.

Are There Any Other Decent Electric Pickups Out There?

Tesla Cybertruck

Considering Tesla's mission is to produce EVs that sell, the Wolf is going to face stiff competition from a futuristic beast that Musk's company is releasing in 2022, apparently: The Cybertruck. Regarding its exterior design, the Tesla model looks like something out of a science fiction film, but maybe that is the point of it.

The Cybertruck is built with an exterior shell made for ultimate durability and passenger protection. Beginning with a nearly impenetrable exoskeleton, every component is designed for superior strength and endurance, from Ultra-Hard 30X Cold-Rolled stainless-steel structural skin to Tesla armor glass. Tesla's website makes it sound like a car suitable for a James Bond film. But there is no doubt that its exterior is superior to that of the Wolf's, unfortunately.

The single-motor rear-wheel drive version of the Cybertruck can go from 0-60 mph in 6.5 seconds, whereas the Wolf is quicker in that respect. However, both pick-ups have similar range figures.

Despite this, there is more bad news to come for the Wolf. The Cybertruck is capable of towing more than its Alpha rival, as it has a towing capacity of 7,500 lbs. The dual-motor all-wheel drive version of the Cybertruck can tow up to 10,000 lbs and can zoom from 0-60 mph in 4.5 seconds, with a range of 300 miles +.

EVs are beginning to dominate the automotive market, and the Wolf has so much potential. Nonetheless, the Cybertruck seems like the better choice if you want a car that can perform well and has a decent towing capacity. Let's hope that Tesla releases it on time next year.
