Not only is the brand focusing on producing some outstanding cars in the next few years along with bringing updates to its existing lineup, but Porsche is also set on enhancing fuel technology and its ability to shape the car world for years ahead. 8 Synthetic Fuels
Porsche is aiming to begin trials for its own synthetic fuel by the end of 2022. To do this, Porsche is putting in $24 million into a plant in South America to make carbon-neutral synthetic fuels for ICE cars. The company is expected to produce 55 million liters of synthetic fuel by 2024, increasing this ten-fold by 2026. As it doesn't require modified engines, Porsche is hoping that the lifeline for the combustion-engined 911 can be extended with the production of synthetic fuel.
Porsche expects synthetic fuel to reduce CO2 impact by 85% for ICE cars. This is very innovative and the level of funding put into synthetic fuels by Porsche is something we can expect other brands to follow in, with Volkswagen and Bentley already looking to use e-fuels. Indeed, synthetic fuel is a huge hint at the future of cars and how Porsche expects to continue its leadership in innovation.
7 Porsche Macan EV 2022
The Porsche Macan EV is looking to be very exciting. With it recently going into development, enthusiasts are enamored with its pre-prototype, which was recently shown off. The new all-electric EV offers many design tweaks as revealed by spy photos. There isn't a grille and the roofline has been lowered, along with the interior removing a conventional gear shifter.
While the non-EV Macan will still be offered, the EV model will be based on the same platform used in the Taycan and it will come with the new Premium Platform Electric structure, allowing for a high-tech experience. The Macan EV looks to be a shifting point for Porsche, showing its commitment to EVs and how the brand will continue to be a part of EV infrastructure for quite some time.
6 Taycan Update
2022 will bring an update to the Taycan, including various technological and range improvements. The range of the Taycan is improved by the decoupling of the front electric motor when the car is under partial load, which improves the range levels. Other technological updates like the thermal management system allow the battery to be heated to higher temperatures than before. This means that the car can be charged quicker.
While there are no styling updates, Porsche is bringing 65 colors to the car and this includes iconic colors from its back catalog including Rubystone Red and Riviera blue. The Paint to Sample and Paint to Sample Plus packages allow buyers to have a lot of creative freedom, offering greater personalization potential.
5 Cayenne Facelift
Originally launched in 2017, the Porsche Cayenne is receiving a facelift in 2022, giving a fresh appeal to buyers. The car is expected to come with an overhauled rear that makes it look similar to the Porsche Macan. Also, the number plate has been moved down to the bumper making the trunk exterior similar to that of the Cayenne Coupe.
There are also a few revisions expected inside the car, with the steering wheel and seats likely to be updated. There have also been some speculations regarding the powertrain, with the possibility of a hybrid model that produces 552 hp. In any case, it will be exciting to see the updates made to the Cayenne in 2022.
4 Porsche 911 GT3 RS 2022
With the success of the 911 GT3, it is no surprise that Porsche is making the high-performance GT3 RS model for 2022. The car will come with styling updates, making it look even more like a track car. Coming with a dual-tip exhaust centrally in the rear bumper and a rear wing that boosts downforce, it will certainly look the part. Also coming with 20-inch alloy wheels at the front and 21-inch alloy wheels at the back, it is perfect for track-based performance driving.
It's expected to come with a 4.0-liter flat-six engine that produces over 510 hp and going 0-60 mph in under four seconds, the GT3 RS is expected to be an outstanding model, and its lighter weight is expected to boost the general performance feel of the car. Prices start at $143,600 for a car that will be exceptional to drive.
3 New Cayman GT4 RS
The new Cayman is finally getting the high-power treatment that it deserves with the GT4 RS. Being track-oriented, the RS is expected to come with a 4.0-liter flat-six engine that produces around 500 hp, which is a huge boost over the standard GT4 414 hp engine. It also features boosted aerodynamics and it comes with a large swan-neck rear wing, helping to ensure that maximum downforce is achieved.
Improvements to the chassis bring stiffer suspension, and the breaks will be upgraded as well. For these fancy new features, though, buyers will again be expected to pay quite a high price. The GT4 RS costs $130,000 at its starting point, which isn't as high as the GT3 RS, but it is still a fairly high price.
2 Porsche Panamera Update
The current Porsche Panamera was released in 2017, so its 2023 update is a welcome one. The car will feature larger side intakes and a new shape for the center intake. It will likely receive the same interior and powertrain updates as the Cayenne. It is also expected to feature a hybrid opinion too, again reflecting similarities to the Cayenne.
It is also expected that there will be an updated Panamera Sport Turismo wagon too, but the standard Panamera is expected to at some point go electric, so this update may simply extend its life-cycle a little bit longer.
1 Porsche's Return To Formula 1
There are reports that the Volkswagen Group is likely to return to Formula 1. Whether it will return in the form of the Audi F1 or Porsche F1, or both, this is fantastic news for enthusiasts. This is expected to be likely with the recent budget caps put into place by F1. The budget cap of $145 million in 2021 will be reduced by a further $10 million by 2023, and this is a lucrative position for the VW Group to be in, especially as the financial problems that they encountered previously wouldn't be a problem anymore.
Also, the electrification of F1 is great for the VW Group as many of its cars are going electric, reflecting a fresh lease of life onto the race cars. It would be great to see a change in the racing scene, with further innovation by Porsche sure to be nothing less than exciting.
