The film “Back to the Future” still gives fans a nostalgic feeling every time a year in the story turns. That includes the types of vehicles seen in the film.

It isn't only the iconic "Delorean" that Marty McFly and Doc Brown traveled on. They also had one made in Japan too in the Toyota SR-5.

Before we talk about the Toyota truck in the film, let's talk about why the pickup truck was considered a worthy vehicle to be driven by Marty and Doc.

First, let's take a closer look at the Toyota SR-5.

The Toyota SR-5 is actually the Hilux. It's one in a series of pickup trucks by the Japanese automaker. The Hilux is available in either a pickup or a cab variant.

The SR-5 is a pickup designed for more rugged terrains. It's built for heavy-duty as opposed to the Tacoma, which was more of a family pickup.

Its name was retired in 1976 to give way to just being called Truck, Pickup Truck, or Compact Truck. One of its option packages became so popular that it made the movies too.

The SR5 or Sport Runabout 5-Speed was what the truck was called. Other models used the option package, too but were still mainly the Hilux until the Toyota Tacoma replaced it in 1995.

The Toyota SR-5 became the Japanese version of the Ford F-Series, the Chevy Silverado, and the RAM trucks. It wasn't meant as a JDM vehicle overall.

In fact, the SR-5 was able to compete with its American counterparts. It even beat out Detroit's big three as it was the vehicle of choice in the film Back To The Future.

The SR-5 was the apple of Marty McFly's eyes in the film. He was looking at that Toyota pickup being sold at the fictional Statler Toyota.

This Toyota Hilux model was an all-black, custom-built 4X4 pickup which was shown as an ad in the film. The Statler Toyota dealership in Hill Valley was selling this pickup, which McFly wished to have someday.

He eventually did own an SR5, and he was supposed to take Jennifer to the park when Needles and his band of bullies challenge for a race. McFly was smart enough not to proceed because if he did, his Sr5 would have hit a Rolls Royce.

The exact model used in the film is very much alive and well today. In fact, it even sold for over $80,000.

The car featured in one of the most iconic Hollywood films of all time, the Back To The Future trilogy. It is given that all memorabilia related to the film will be some of its most prized catches.

While it's the DMC Delorean that is surely going to get most of the love, Marty McFly’s 1985 Toyota SR5 Xtra Cab pickup is still something hardcore fans would want to get their hands on.

There are several of these Toyota pickups used for the film, but not much was preserved post-filming. The one in the first film became a prize in a giveaway but got totally wrecked. The main truck used in the second and third movies is the only surviving one.

It was a weird story, though. The actual pickup in the film was stolen and used to smuggle drugs across the U.S. and Mexican border. The owner later recovered by the owner and sold it on Craigslist.

The father and son duo Bill and Patrick Shea from Massachusets are huge fans of the film. Their most prized possession from the film is the only privately owned DeLorean used for filming.

Bill and Patrick bought the once smuggler pickup truck to restore. The father and son team restored the truck and added their modifications, such as a better engine and other body repairs.

McFly's Toyota SR5 now ran on a 2.4-liter 22RE fuel-injected, four-cylinder engine and five-speed manual transmission. It also got a new black exterior, lift kit, roll bars, aftermarket wheels, revamped exhaust and brakes, and a few interior tweaks.

The Sheas had a hard time getting some of the parts, which are harder to find, so they relied on fellow hardcore fans of the film to trackdown the parts.

The end result was way better than the actual truck in the film.

The Toyota Tacoma replaced the Hilux in the 90s. It was also used to remake the iconic pickup in the film in 2016.

The said model was a modern design with all the retro-inspired accessories of the film version of the truck. It was also reinforced with an off-road suspension, mud flaps, and a light bar. There also was the same signature KC HiLites in the front and on the light bar.

It looked like a Toyota pickup truck that McFly would have driven if Back To The Future was made today. The aggressive-looking Tacoma is something fans would want as a daily driver.

Regardless, it will always be Doc Brown's Delorean that will get most of the love for being the actual time machine in the film.
