Honda has given the world many awesome cars since the S500 sports car in 1963. Over the years, we bid farewell to some, while others have promised to return, such as the Integra, yet a few continue to astound us with every new generation. However, the most important model in its arsenal is of course the illustrious Honda Civic. Whether it is the sporty hatchback, the sedan, the feisty Civic Si, or the adulterated Type-R. The Civic is a car that has stood the test of time. There is now an all-new Honda Civic sedan model. From what we know so far, it seems to be one of the best all-around cars you can get today.

Looks Like A Million Bucks

The previous-generation Civic looked awesome. It was edgy, sharp, and aggressive from any angle. But, unlike any Civic before it, was a bold move that divided opinion. It was an acquired taste that some didn’t like the flashiness of.

The new-generation 2022 Civic sedan, Honda seems to have styled it just right. It's sharp and bold enough to draw attention at a car meet, but sophisticated should you arrive at a fancy party in a tuxedo.

The wide look from the front gives the new Civic an aggressive look. The minimal level of creases results in a far cleaner look. The LED headlamps are slim, sleek, bright but not flashy. The alloy wheels offer a sporty look, especially for the top-shelf Touring model. From the back, especially with the new split design taillights, the Civic looks a class apart.

2022 Honda Civic Sedan Interior Dash Design

Step inside the new Civic and for a change, it is not the flashy touchscreen that grabs your attention, like it is with most cars today. Instead, the design of the dash makes you take a step back, soak it in and go… Wow!

The entire dash design looks exquisite and the party piece is the metal trim that runs across the entire width. This metal trim helps elevate the cabin look and feel, especially with the air vents that are integrated seamlessly within.

Another cool touch is the hints of a retro boxy 80’s Japanese style that has been used in various parts of the car. Furthermore, everything is laid out ergonomically, and thank goodness that the climate control system can be controlled by a traditional set of buttons, rather than a confusing sub-menu, operatable through the touchscreen. The buttons themselves are made well with a metallic feel that is nice to the touch. Most importantly with the automatic transmissions, Honda has kept a traditional gear selector instead of going the button route with the new Civic.

With a minimalist vibe, the Civic’s cabin looks expensive and feels exquisite. Honda has paid attention to detail when the cabin was redesigned and it evidently shows.

Under the Hood Of The 2022 Honda Civic

The Civic sedan is available in four trims — LX, Sport, EX, and Touring. The latter two pack a 1.5-liter, turbocharged VTEC motor that churns out 180 ponies and 177 lb-ft of torque. However, it is only available with a CVT transmission. While that VTEC engine offers all the modern necessities, the transmission is there to help return gas mileage with Honda quoting combined figures around 34-36 mpg.

The lower trims with the LX and Sport get the 2.0-liter i-VTEC engines with 158 ponies but no turbos. At least for now, the lack of a manual transmission in any spec of the sedan is a bit of a shame. However, this motor with the CVT gearbox claims to return 33-35 mpg, so both engines see marginal improvements from before. This results in a package that provides you with all the performance you may need from a daily driver, and it wouldn’t burn a hole in your pocket either.

How Big A Hole Will It Burn Though?

This 2022 Civic is priced not much higher than the car it replaces. You can have it for as little as $21,700 for the base LX. A mere $450 more than the starting price of the older car. The Civic, of course, comes loaded with all the tech in the world of cars today and then some. The ergonomic design and how Honda carved out space inside make it great for family use. It even scored tremendously well in the IIHS crash test, becoming their top pick.

The Civic may not be the perfect car that caters to everyone’s needs and desires. But It does manage to do pretty much everything well. It feels like a wholesome package when you consider it against its rivals the Hyundai Elantra, Toyota Corolla, or the Nissan Sentra. The new Civic sedan just hits the sweet spot from every direction. However, if you are looking for something more exciting and don’t mind a bigger hole burnt in your pocket, Honda is working on a Civic Si along with a brand new Type-R. Maybe those will rock your boat?
