Many supercars have high performance statistics, and they often are some of the world’s coolest things, especially on the road. A lot goes into these high performance vehicles, however, and only a few in the world have the ability to get each and every part just right. Porsche, a company known mostly for making some sporty sedans and more recently, SUVs, along with the 911 GT2RS and GT3RS as their modern day supercars, isn’t very often thought of as a supercar company.

When you think of a supercar, the names Lamborghini, Ferrari, Aston Martin, and various others are usually mentioned. Something these others often lack, however, is having a lot of experience with certain, more practical functions in a car. Aston Martin, for example, doesn’t even have their own infotainment technology. They use a Mercedes-Benz system for the center console. Porsche, however, makes one of the best, most modern infotainment systems. In fact, Porsche is ranked one of the best in the world for each and every part of their cars. With this all-around quality, along with wanting to make a successor to their legendary Porsche Carrera GT, the Porsche 918 was made.

All Around Unique

The Porsche 918 Spyder is one of the most unique supercars in the world, not only because Porsche rarely makes a car quite as extreme as this, but also because of something else. Supercars, regular cars, and even hypercars usually have the exhaust in the most obvious spot, the back. Sometimes the exhaust is even on the side of the car. But almost nobody has ever built a car that has its exhaust where Porsche put the 918 Spyder’s. In the creation of the 918, Porsche had a lot of trial and error in getting to the car as it is today. Some of the concepts had cameras for mirrors and wing doors, but the actual production vehicle has something even crazier. The exhausts on the Porsche 918 Spyder are right behind the cockpit, facing upwards instead of sideways.

With this supercar still being a Porsche, it has an incredible interior. The modern design of the 918 features a massive touch screen that runs across the whole center area. It is one of the cleanest, most sophisticated center consoles you will ever see in a car, without a doubt. In addition to this, the steering wheel with the stunning Porsche logo has some additional functionality, to give the driver easier use of their car while driving.

Most supercars will be able to reach speeds of around 200 miles per hour, maybe a little faster, maybe a little slower. The 918 Spyder, however, has the ability to crush those numbers. While in E-Power mode it can only reach a speed of 93 miles per hour, in its fastest mode, which uses both gas and electric motors, it can get faster than 211 miles per hour. How is it able to be this fast and even accelerate from 0-60 in only 2.2 seconds, you might ask? The answer is the 4.6 liter V8 making 599 horsepower, when combined with the electric motors that make 282 horsepower, gives you a whopping 881 horsepower all in this one car.

Many people would say that even with all of this, the price of a Porsche 918 Spyder is unreasonably high. Paying around $1.8 million for a car is thought to be a crazy, unreasonable purchase. However, that is actually the resale value, which has gone up so much because of how good the car really is. When this was new, it actually cost well under a million dollars. The Porsche 918 Spyder originally started at $845,000, and while it is still a high price, it is a bargain for all that comes with it.

Practical And Speedy

Seeing this car on the street, most people would think it is the most impractical car in the world. If you thought this, you would be completely wrong. The 918 Spyder is not just fast and flashy, it is also fuel efficient. The Porsche supercar gets a whopping 81 miles per gallon. A 2020 Toyota Prius, one of the cars that defines the word practical, only gets 58 miles per gallon in the city and even less—53–-on the highway.

Along with the practicality, speed, and absolute perfection of this car, you have to remember the outside. When making this vehicle, Porsche didn’t cheap out on the exterior. This car is one of the best looking vehicles in the world, without a doubt, from its aggressive styling to the unique back half, which even includes an electronic wing in the back that is movable inside the cockpit of this fighter jet like car.

Overall Take

Whether you are talking about the inside or out of this Porsche supercar, it is an incredible automobile that any human being is lucky to see, be in, or own. It is a pinnacle supercar when it comes to design, practicality, and any other statistic you can put on a car. With all of this, it truly is the ultimate supercar to date.
