When buying a car there is a lot to consider. Should you buy something new or used? A coupe or convertible? SUV or sedan?

All of these factors and more go into the process of getting yourself a nice, new vehicle. Some people, however, would opt for a car that is more sporty. Something that isn’t quiet and normal. More specifically, a V8, and while there are many different V8 supercars and regular cars that you can buy brand new or with some miles on them, one stands out above the rest as a bargain for all that comes with it.

Mercedes-Benz has long been a company known for their high class car technology combined with large levels of comfort, all for a fairly reasonable price in the luxury car realm. Through all of this, they made one car that has quickly become one of the coolest things you will see in a lifetime. In 2009 the Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG was revealed, and in 2010 they were being sold to the public. This nearly instantly became one of the most unique modern day cars for many reasons, including, but not limited to, how it has better doors than a Lamborghini and now goes for a bargain price.

Origins

All the way back in 1952 is when this unique car’s story began. 68 years ago, Mercedes released one of their most famous models ever, the Mercedes Benz 300SL, also known as the 300SL Gullwing, a name given to it for the unique door design it has. The doors it features don’t simply go outward, they go up, meaning that when your doors are open, you look like a bird that is driving on the road. This iconic design, along with the already amazing look of a classic Mercedes, is what has lifted the price of one of these cars to around $2-3 million. The much newer SLS model, which was built in partnership with AMG, along with many other Mercedes models, has a bargain price considering how similar it is to this old legend.

The Price Is Right

If you are in the market for a V8 car, there are many different options, ranging from the 2005 Ford GT, made to honor the legendary GT40 which won Le Mans 4 years in a row, to the 2020 Ferrari F8 Tributo, Ferrari’s newest mid engine V8 supercar. Both of these, and many others, however, can’t even come close in comparison to the deal you will get from buying a Mercedes Benz SLS AMG.

Both the GT and F8 Tributo cost around $300,000, and the Ford is from 2005. Not to mention how impractical these two supercars, along with most other high performance V8 cars, are. These two, along with a lot of other cars using similar engines, are mid-engined, meaning they only have a front trunk which is often very small in comparison to normal trunks in the back like the SLS’s. Additionally, the Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG costs as low as $120,000 if you buy one used, a bargain price compared to many other cars with this level of power and performance.

Style And Reliability

While people will argue that it would be better to spend $70,000 on a 2009 Ferrari F430, for example, for the lower price and cool factor of owning a Ferrari, this idea would be completely wrong.

Although you could argue that people will like the way a Ferrari looks and sounds over a Mercedes, you have to consider the expenses of owning one. If any small thing breaks in your Italian sports car, you may be down thousands of dollars, and a high mileage Ferrari that is over 10 years old is going to have problems which will build up quickly. Additionally, while the doors of your SLS are closed, a Ferrari may look better side to side, but as soon as you open the doors and they go straight up, a car, no matter who made it, won’t look as cool as yours if their doors simply go sideways like a Honda Civic.

On the durability side of things, not only will a broken part on a Mercedes cost less to fix than on a Ferrari but also, Mercedes are known to be among the most reliable and durable cars manufactured, so the chance of something breaking is much lower than in most other car company vehicles.

Advanced Tech

Yet another thing Mercedes is highly known for is making some of the best car infotainment systems in the world and having the best quality technology in their cars. Mercedes Benz makes systems so good that other companies including Aston Martin use their system for a car that makes you look like James Bond. The SLS reflects this advanced technology in its interior. Despite how the car is about 10 years old, it still has a screen in front of the driver and in the center console, along with a whole set of different buttons and functions inside that make it look like a modern day system.

The Mercedes Benz SLS AMG, unlike its more powerful relative, the Black Series, has a very reasonable price for all that you get. From having the coolest doors ever invented, to its historical significance, to the reliability and impressive technology, not to mention its high performance stats, including that it can reach 317 KPH with its 583 horsepower, the SLS is a bargain V8 supercar that would be crazy to pass up.
