Most people have no doubt seen the legendary 1975 Ferrari 308 GTB on the road at some point in their lives. They continue to grace roads across the world with their presence, and its red exterior remains iconic 46 years after it was debuted at the London and Paris auto shows.

The 308 GTB was built to a Pininfarina design by Scaglietti, and according to EVO, Enzo Ferrari often said that his road models would only ever have 12-cylinder engines. When the automaker began building cars with V6s and V8s, they were badged as Dinos.

When the Dino 246 GT needed replacing, the Italian company returned to its preferred styling house. The result was the Ferrari 308 GTB. Designed by the legendary Leonardo Fioravanti, with obvious nods to the 246 in the curving wing-tops and sculpted air intakes, but also an apparent relationship to Fioravanti's clean-lined and then-recently launched Berlinetta Boxer, it was immediately nostalgic and beautifully modern.

Those who worked at parent company Fiat, and most importantly, the customers, were no doubt pleased to see the 308 GTB was badged and marketed as a Ferrari. It instantly became a best-seller.

For those who are looking to purchase one, high-mileage steel-bodied GTBs begin at around £75,000, but it would be wise to budget for around £85-95,000 realistically. Steel-bodied dry-sump carburetor GTBs are £100,000 plus, and yet glass fiber-bodied models are the most sought after by a long mile. This is because of their lightness and performance, but also because of their rarity.

Anybody who manages to buy one should consider themselves rather lucky because there are just 154 right-hand drive examples available. So really, it is widely anticipated that most GTB fans would need to pay £150,000-plus for a decent version and approximately £180,000 for the very best. Mind you; nobody said that Ferraris are cheap, not even old ones.

All variants are supported by a tubular steel frame with some sheet metal elements, including a riveted aluminum floor and a welded sheet-steel rear bulkhead. Undertrays mostly guard the structural tubular steel frame underneath, so it tends not to provide too many issues. The frame at the front, where the battery is located, is easy to spot, and it should give a good idea of the general condition of the structure.

Thanks to its V8 engine, the 308 GTB is a fast model, to say the least. Its total displacement is 2,926.90 CC, and it has a maximum power output of 188 kW at 7,700 RPM. Other features that the Ferrari model has include twin overhead camshafts per bank and two valves per cylinder. There is a single-plate clutch, and its ignition is a single spark plug per cylinder with a single coil.

The 308 GTB's top speed is 252 KM/H, so it would be wise for any passengers in this car to hold on to their seats as the driver blasts away inside of it.

It is worth noting that the 3-liter V8 is a robust engine. As long as anyone who happens to get their hands on a 308 GTB properly maintains it and drives it in a sensitive way, it is quite capable of reaching high mileages without needing a complete rebuild.

The frame of the 308 GTB is made of tubular steel, and it has decent brake discs. The Ferrari model has a 5-speed transmission with a fuel tank that has a capacity of 80 liters. The transmission is mounted below and to the rear of the bottom of the engine. EVO claims that the gearbox can feel notchy when cold, and apparently, it baulks slightly when going into second, but it should be fine after that.

Additionally, the front and rear tires are both 205/70 VR 14s, which make for pretty decent wheels. However, they should be replaced when they are ten years old or so. It is worth checking the date stamp.

This 308 GTB is a two-seater Berlinetta with a length of 4,230 MM, a width of 1,720 MM, a height of 1,120 MM, and a wheelbase of 2,340 1,460 MM front track and a rear track of 1,460 MM. This Ferrari model also has a weight of 1,090 KG.

There is so much to love about this car: its design, engine, performance, and chassis. If anybody manages to save enough cash to buy one, keep it in good condition because it will be totally worth it.
