Built on the same platform as the Honda Pilot, the Acura MDX is a 3-row midsize luxury SUV that has graced highways since 2001. The 2022 model year marks the beginning of the fourth generation, and Acura has offered the flagship model in its lineup of luxury cars. The 2022 Acura MDX Type S, built for driving enthusiasts, offers a stellar combination of thrilling dynamics and refined features.
Under the hood lies a Type S-exclusive DOHC 3-liter V6 paired with a strong and quick shifting ten-speed automatic transmission. Built on a performance-tuned chassis and riding on self-sealing tires, the all-new Acura MDX Type S is a bundle of innovative technology. In addition to the creature comforts it offers, there is also a long list of high-tech infotainment and driver-assist features to make your journeys entertaining and safe. As the final release day draws closer, here's why we're looking forward to the new Acura MDX Type S.
10 Powerful 3-Liter V6
While lesser trim levels feature the same 290 hp 3.5-liter V6 used in the 2019 model, the new MDX Type S uses a 3-liter V6. The potent turbocharged power plant cranks out 355 hp and 354 lb-ft of twist to power the premium SUV to the high-performance Type S status.
Acura dubs the 2022 MDX Type S as the most powerful and best-performing Acura SUV that has ever rolled off the line. With Acura claiming it is their quickest SUV, we hope to see a 0-60 time that's way better than the 5.7s managed by lesser MDXs.
9 Plush Interior
The luxurious interior of the Acura MDX Type S speaks volumes about the quality of Acura's craftsmanship and leaves nothing to be desired. A brilliant 12.3" HD Center Display touchscreen interface allows you to interact with, and control your vehicle's features.
With the Advance Package, the specially quilted heated/ventilated Milano leather seats offer a 9-way massage function for the driver and front passenger. In addition to the contrast stitching and a flat-bottom steering wheel, the interior also features the Acura IconicDrive ambient cabin lighting with more than 20 themes to choose from.
8 Long List Of Driver Assist Features
The 2022 Acura MDX Type S comes fully loaded with key safety and driver-assist tech to help you operate the vehicle safely. Features that come with the AcuraWatch safety suite include Road Departure Mitigation, Traffic Jam Assist, and Traffic Sign Recognition.
Others are Autonomous Emergency Braking with pedestrian detection and Driver Attention Monitor that alerts the driver if it notices signs of distractions. To maintain safe separation from other cars, the adaptive cruise control engages the brakes appropriately if you get too close to the vehicle in front of you.
7 Super Handling AWD
Aggressive power is delivered to all four wheels by a reengineered quick-shifting ten-speed automatic transmission system with paddle shifters. Unlike conventional all-wheel-drive systems, Acura's super-handling all-wheel drive doesn't only send power to all the wheels, it also controls how much is sent to each wheel.
Being a rear-biased system, it sends up to 70% of torque to the rear axle and can vary the amount it sends to either of the rear wheels. Depending on the driving conditions, the system constantly varies torque distribution to give the Type S maximum grip at all times.
6 Premium Sound System
The 2022 Acura MDX is one of the best cars of 2021, and the audio system comes standard with an ELS Studio 3D sound system that is fine-tuned to deliver high-quality sound output. Using sixteen speakers strategically positioned in the cabin and an upgraded amplifier, the 710 watts system creates an immersive studio-quality audio experience.
With the Advance Package, the 1000 watts ELS Studio 3D Signature Edition uses two amplifiers and 25 speakers to serenade you with quality. Acura relies on ingenious sound technology to create a clear and well-balanced sound that takes your audio experience to a whole new dimension.
5 Self-Sealing Tires
When it's time for a much anticipated weekend getaway with the family, all it takes to deflate everyone's high spirit is one rogue sharp object. Something as little as a nail could cause you big problems and leave you stranded in the middle of nowhere if you don't have a spare.
The new Acura MDX rides on 21-inch alloy rims covered with Continental ContiSeal performance tires with self-sealing capability. With this unique tire technology at work, you can continue driving even if you have a puncture, as the ContiSeal would take care of it.
4 AcuraLink
The Acura MDX Type S comes with AcuraLink - the navigation and connectivity solution that hooks you up to a range of cloud-based services. Apart from feeding you real-time traffic updates, it also gives you seamless access to your vehicle through a compatible smart device.
With your smart device, you can request roadside assistance, send directions to your Acura's navigation system, and check the vehicle's status. Furthermore, you'll be notified if the vehicle's alarm is set off, and if your vehicle is stolen, authorities can use the application to track and recover it.
3 Adaptive Air Suspension
The Acura MDX Type S also gets an adaptive air suspension that can adjust the ground clearance to aid navigation over rough terrain. With feedback from the ride height sensors, the system will automatically adjust to ensure a level ride height at all times.
Working with the Integrated Dynamics System, it uses exclusive valve rates to give the best feedback depending on the drive mode you choose. Featured in an Acura for the first time, the adaptive air suspension will improve efficiency, ride quality, and allow you to carve corners with confidence.
2 Electro-Servo Braking System
Having a spirited ride in a performance car could be exciting especially when you have assurance in the stopping power of the car. To bring the 2022 Acura SUV to a confident and authoritative stop, Acura uses the same braking system used in the second-generation NSX.
The electro-servo brakes, paired with the red Brembo four-piston calipers in front, the rear calipers, and large rotors provide exceptional stopping power. Even when the Acura MDX Type S is pushed to the limits, the electro-servo braking system will always bring it to a safe stop.
1 Acura Integrated Dynamics System
The 2022 Acura MDX Type S comes with the Acura Integrated Dynamics System with seven different drive modes to give you a satisfying driving experience. In addition to the Normal, Comfort, Snow, Personal, and Sport modes, the Type S also comes with a new Lift mode and the Sport+ mode.
With the Dynamic Mode dial, you can switch between modes for your choice of shifting points and power distribution to suit any given situation. Exclusive to the Type S, the Sport+ mode takes the capabilities of the Sport mode to a higher level.
