YouTuber and auto enthusiast Emelia Hartford created more than her share of waves throughout 2021, much of them involving her prized Chevrolet Corvette C8. In March, the supercar snared a world record in its auto class with a 9.41-second run on a quarter-mile strip. After losing the title to a FuelTech USA build later that spring, Hartford struck back in June after retuning her twin-turbo LT2 engine to break the world record once again with a 9.36-second result. She's since moved the car under the radar since then, but in response to fans clamoring for an update, Hartford brought folks up to speed on the C8 in a video posted Tuesday.
Corvette Received Basic Maintenance
Among the first tasks Hartford and company completed on the Corvette involved replacing the intercooler, which suffered a hairline fracture. They also swapped out the direct injectors, gummed up by all the leaded fuel and methanol running through. Other maintenance involved rerouting a few positive crankcase ventilation lines and added reservoirs to the oil return system under the rear of the Corvette.
A few other areas they need to check include the transmission control system to make shifting easier. That might involve putting the Corvette onto the dyno to test it out. Otherwise, Hartford assured viewers that everyone's now current regarding her legendary ride. "Long story short, we fixed or improved some of the weak points of the car," said Hartford.
C8 Gets New Condensers And Mesh Protectors
She also bought a set of condensers and mesh protectors for her C8; not having them installed resulted in her prized Corvette being subject to rocks and other debris cutting airflow from the front. It's a matter of unscrewing the front bumper from the rest of the car, including getting into harder-to-reach areas underneath the car once the crew placed it on a lift.
"I'll be curious to see if engine temps cool down a little bit," said Hartford after they finished the job. "Honestly, I don't think so, but it was something that was really bothering me since I procrastinated so long to get a little mesh protector that I just felt like at that point I had to replace the condensers."
Z06 And A Mustang Build Slated For 2022
The video only documented the condenser replacements, but Hartford added she would show other modifications throughout 2022 as well as the arrival of a Z06 to play around with as well as a Mustang build. She plans to get into the thick of things after a two-week hiatus in January.
