At times, it seems like the traditional vehicle designs have been completely and utterly exhausted at this point. Nothing a traditional sedan, SUV, or truck is today excites potential customers. This is why we see rather unorthodox car designs such as that of Volkswagen I.D. Buzz or the Tesla Cybertruck coming out. New EV startup Canoo definitely appears to adhere to this school of thought. Branded as “lifestyle vehicles,” Canoo looks to make a rounded-off and utilitarian style the next big thing in automotive styling.

But this is not necessarily a bad thing. Canoo takes an approach that makes the functionality of owning a van or truck appealing to more people. Traditionally speaking, vans and trucks have been some of the most polarizing segments in the automotive industry, given that they are geared towards a very specific consumer. But Canoo’s approach shows how the functionality of vehicles like these can be enjoyed by the masses by giving them more mass appeal. Canoo’s truck, simply dubbed “Pickup,” is the vehicle in their lineup that has gotten the most attention so far, and for good reasons. This truck does not look like any other truck on the market, and that uniqueness deserves a deeper look into what makes it a viable contender in an increasingly heated segment.

Looking for an EV truck? This is why you should give the Canoo Pickup a second glance.

The Canoo Pickup is delightfully different. It’s styling clearly shows that it is not trying to be like every other truck on the road, which gives it an opportunity to appeal to those who do not want a truck like what has been traditionally offered in the past. This has already proven to be successful with unconventional truck newcomers like the Hyundai Santa Cruz and Ford Maverick. The detail about Canoo’s truck that stand out among the rest is that it is fully electric. This means that there are fewer mechanical parts taking up the space in the Pickup that Canoo is using to market as a more functional vehicle.

The Canoo Pickup is claimed to have more than 200 miles of range, as well as more than 500 horsepower coming from its electrified powertrain. Both of these numbers are about on par for what is common in the electrified truck segment so far. It also offers a single and dual electric motor setup, which means that it will be offered in both Rear-wheel drive and all-wheel drive versions.

Where the Canoo Pickup really shines is in how practical it is in so many use cases. For example, the bed length of the EV truck is standard at a commendable six feet. But the bed can be easily extended to eight feet with the automatic floor extender that the Pickup has. What makes this more functional as well as different from the tailgate of a traditional pickup is that the extended amount of space is can still be enclosed, versus a normal truck’s tailgate solely extending the length of the bed. Canoo has found a way for owners to keep their peace of mind when it comes to hauling large items and not having to worry about losing them on the road.

There is also plenty of storage available on the Canoo Pickup. It has a front trunk or “frunk” with its covering doubling as a convenient worktable. Wherever you may need it, Canoo has provided plenty of power sources, whether it be in the front of the truck or in the bed so that owners are always within a comfortable reach of an outlet. To maximize the amount of space given in the truck’s bed, Canoo has designed a modular system that allows for dividers to be placed in between various sections of the bed so that things can always stay nice and organized even in larger spaces.

Canoo’s take on what they believe that a pickup truck should look like may come across as rather unorthodox. But it works. It offers all the functionality of a truck but takes a different direction in the styling to better fit Canoo’s “lifestyle vehicle” ethos, which it does extremely well. A truck such as a Ford F-150 is a great truck, but does not suit everyone the best. Canoo has shown that there is truly a truck out there for everyone.

According to the company, preordering a Canoo Pickup truck will only cost you $100, and it is completely refundable. The total pricing has not been released for the Canoo Pickup, but we can expect deliveries to be “as early as 2023” according to Canoo’s website. Essentially, the only downside to preordering a Canoo Pickup is that you have to wait at least a year until you can experience all the great quirks of the truck in person.
