In just four months since Hertz went out of bankruptcy, it now wants to do something electrifyingly ambitious. Hertz is electrifying its rental car fleet, and by the end of 2022, the company will have around 100,000 EVs from Tesla as well as new EV charging infrastructure across its global operations.

100,000 Tesla EVs To Join Hertz Fleet By End Of 2022

Hertz is seeing EVs as the new mainstream, which is why it wanted to have the largest EV rental fleet in the United States and one of the largest in the world. This is not, however, the first time it employed EVs in its fleet. Hertz has been operating EVs since 2011, becoming the first U.S. car rental company to do so. But the sheer amount of EVs it plans to include in its fleet is overwhelming, as this could be the single-largest purchase ever for electric cars.

Hertz will start offering Tesla Model 3 sedans in airport and neighborhood locations in major U.S. markets and certain cities in Europe starting in early November. By then, the EV could start proving they can become the greatest rental cars. According to Hertz, the current order of 100,000 Teslas means EVs will comprise over 20 percent of its global fleet. The order represents around $4.2 billion of revenue for Tesla, Bloomberg News reported, citing people privy with the matter.

Tom Brady Stars In Hertz’s New Ad Campaign

Hertz also commenced an advertising campaign aimed at letting current and would-be customers know that they could now rent Tesla EVs. This campaign dubbed as "Hertz, Let's Go!" stars seven-time Super Bowl champion Tom Brady. The campaign includes two new ads – "Plugged In" and "Speed" – and both deliver an interesting play to Brady's signature rallying cry “Let's Go."

Aside from ordering an initial 100,000 EVs, Hertz is also installing thousands of chargers across its locations. Customers renting a Model 3 can access around 3,000 Tesla supercharging stations across the U.S. and Europe. Hertz’s new EV fleet can access Level 2 and DC fast charging in around 65 markets by the end of next year and more than 100 markets by the end of 2023.
