The Hoonigan teamThe Hoonigan team loves to check out some pretty cool cars. Most of them are of course seen in their “This vs That” series on their YouTube channel. But their build breakdown shows cover some of the crazy cars that people like to bring to the Hoonigans. And this latest episode sees them check out something pretty crazy. It is a Mini Cooper, that now has 500 hp and it does a great job of laying down some rubber in the burnyard.

Checking Out The Cooper

This car belongs to Tyler of Gildred Racing and he is apparently obsessed with making this Mini on any side of the Mississippi. Nathan is the man that did some epic tinkering with this wild car. Specifically, it is a 1974 Mini Cooper, a Mk3, and has gone through a lot of restomodding. In the back of the car, the Mini now has an Acura J32 engine that also has a Rotrex supercharged bolted onto it for some pretty insane levels of power. The car has had tinkering done for around 10 years.

All in, this car makes around 500 hp which is a giant amount for such a small car. Tyler has just wanted a crazy Mini and this is the product of that ambition. The ambition is clearly highlighted at the back with the “Super Cooper S” badging on the tailgate. The car weighs in at just under 2,000 lbs which is heavy for a Mini like this. Nathan and Tyler have built up more Mini’s and this is a particularly heavy one. They aim to produce some K series Mini’s next which will save on at least 300 lbs.

A One Of A Kind Mini

The motor is quite nicely packed in the back of the car and it has quite a wild exhaust in it. It did need a muffler as originally it was way too loud. Gas mileage-wise, it's not great given the Rotex supercharger on the engine. But Nathan and Tyler think it is somewhere in the 20 mpg range which isn’t terrible but they are hoping it will get a lot better than that. Something else about this car too is that it is fantastic at doing burnouts in the Hoonigan yard and putting on a show.
