Toyota has been making sure the newly revamped 2021 GR Supra gets around these days, following up on a relatively lackluster reception for the 2020 model year. Whether the new revisions will make either the 2.0-liter or the 3.0-liter Supra able to overcome the many questionable decisions that led to its development in partnership with BMW remains to be seen, however. In the interim, the GR Supra will get put through its paces, while 2020 model year owners will no doubt turn to aftermarket products and tunes to try to make up for what their cars lacked from the factory. Perhaps that spirit is what led the Hoonigan YouTube channel to pit a tuned 2020 Toyota Supra against a Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk in the latest installment of the hilariously absurd (but hilariously fun) "This vs. That" series.

Apples To Grapefruit

Comparing these two vehicles is well past an apples-to-oranges affair. From the factory, the 2020 Supra would have been powered by a turbochared BMW inline-six rated at 335 horsepower and 365 lb-ft of torque — stats that were quickly debunked as underrated by Car and Driver with some dyno testing. The Supra in this video has received upgrades to bump that power output up to a claimed 430 ponies from the turbocharged B58 powerplant. That grunt is routed to the rear wheels in a car that weighs right around 3,400 pounds.

Jeep's Trackhawk, meanwhile, leaves the factory as one of the world's most beefy SUVs, thanks largely to the Hellcat engine under the hood. That's the same supercharged Hemi V8 that powers other Fiat-Chrysler products including the Dodge Challenger and Charger, plus the forthcoming Ram TRX.

In this case, the Trackhawk remains in stock form, which should translate to 707 horsepower and 645 lb-ft of torque (although the Hoonigans mistakenly list it as 575 horses at one point). The Trackhawk also benefits from a four-wheel-drive system, which contributes to a hefty curb weight of 5,356 pounds. Watch the video to see whether low weight can help compensate for the Supra's distinct lack of displacement.
