For 2023, the Ford F-Series Super Duty comes with several updates. The F-250, the F-350, and the F-450 all get a new design, more tech inside the cabin, and a powerful engine line-up. Towing and payload capacities also increase for this model year. The Super Duty can now tow an outrageous 40,000 pounds and haul up to 8,000 pounds of cargo.

With these increased capabilities, the Ford Super Duty now stands as a more challenging contender in the heavy-duty truck segment, going against rivals such as the Chevrolet Silverado HD and the Ram 3500 HD. Ford is yet to announce the pricing for the 2023 F-Series Super Duty. However, the new models will reach dealer lots early next year.

For 2023, the Super Duty comes with a revised engine line-up. It gets two new powertrains added to its count. A new 6.8-liter gasoline V8 joins the ranks and is now available as the standard offering on this heavy-duty truck. This motor produces 405 horsepower and 445 lb-ft of torque. The 7.3-liter gasoline V8 continues from the previous generation, putting out a best-in-class 430 horsepower and 485 lb-ft of torque.

The king of the Ford Super Duty's powertrain line-up is the 6.7-liter Power Stroke V8 diesel engine that is now available in two states of tune. Its standard guise produces 475 horsepower and 1,050 lb-ft of torque. 2023 brings in a new High-Output version of this engine with a segment-best 500 horsepower and 1,200 lb-ft of torque. A 10-speed automatic transmission is a standard fit across the Super Duty range.

Properly equipped, the 2023 Ford F-Series Super Duty has some insane towing and payload capacities. For example, when pulling a Gooseneck trailer, an F-450 with the High-Output 6.7-liter V8 diesel and the Max Tow Package is rated for 40,000 pounds. A similarly equipped F-350 can tow a maximum of 38,000 pounds. In comparison, the Chevrolet Silverado HD has a maximum tow rating of 36,000 pounds, while for the Ram HD, this figure stands at 37,090 pounds.

Even in the case of conventional towing, the 2023 Super Duty boasts some pretty impressive figures. This heavy-duty full-size truck can tow a traditional trailer of up to 30,000 pounds and a fifth-wheel trailer of up to 35,000 pounds. For this model year, the maximum payload capacity of the Super Duty increases to 8,000 pounds. This figure is more than the maximum towing capacity of some other trucks in the market and 100s of pounds more than what the heavy-duty line-up of Chevrolet and Ram can haul.

In addition to the new Super Duty line-up's brute force capability, it also has innovative technology and safety features that make this truck a complete package in the heavy-duty segment. For example, it has several driver assistance tech, such as onboard scales, which can estimate the weight of the cargo in the truck bed and display it on the central touchscreen. It also has a 360-degree trailer camera system that will come in handy when hauling large trailers.

The Super Duty gets a dedicated blind-spot monitoring camera system for safely towing Gooseneck and Fifth-wheel trailers. In this setup, the camera is mounted on the trailer itself to detect vehicles in the driver's blind spot and give an indication on the side view mirrors. In addition, this truck also gets a first-in-segment tailgate-down camera and a tailgate-down reverse sensing system, which will make backing it up and hitching a Gooseneck and Fifth-wheel trailer easy.

On top of all these, the 2023 Super Duty also gets Ford's Pro Trailer Hitch Assist which can automatically back the truck up to hitch a conventional trailer. However, the feature that will come in really handy when towing is this truck's trailer navigation system which can plot your route depending on the size and weight of the trailer to avoid low bridges and tight turns.
