Pickup trucks are easily some of the most popular vehicles in the United States. Wherever you go, you are highly likely to see some pickup trucks at some point. And there are plenty of trucks out there to choose from too. There is the Ford F-150 of course and the Chevrolet Silverado. Then there is the GMC range of trucks, such as the 1500. And if that wasn’t enough, we can then get into the range of high performance trucks such as the Ram TRX and the F-150 Raptor. The choices are endless.

If however you want a good, dependable, solid and not too large truck, then perhaps the 2022 Ford Maverick is the one for you. Specifically, the 2022 Ford Maverick Hybrid is probably the truck that you want to drive. The Ford Maverick Hybrid seems to be doing pretty well right now, in whichever form it is, such as XL or XLT. Places such as Motor1 have given the truck a 9/10, and they are not the only outlet to give it such good reviews. This is how the 2022 Maverick Hybrid is defying all expectations.

The Ins And Outs Of The 2022 Maverick Hybrid

Before we go into the great features of the Maverick, let's take a look at the basic figures. The Maverick is powered by a 2.5-liter inline-four engine with a permanent magnet motor. This all combines to produce around 191 hp. That horsepower output is not going to set the world on fire, but then again, this is a pickup truck, and not a supercar or sports car. If you are in and around town, the electric motor and its 1.1-kilowat-hour battery will provide all the output you need to get around.

The interior of the Maverick has an 8.0-inch touchscreen display, although weirdly there is no wireless Apple CarPlay or Android Auto, but it will work wired. There is of course Bluetooth, and there is a 6.5-inch cluster display too. But given the Maverick isn’t as “high-end” say as the top-line F-150, you can probably expect it to lack a few features compared to the higher end trucks in Ford’s range. Its base is $19,995. It’s a truck for those that just want a truck, and aren’t so fussed about the frills and spills. So, those are the main features. What makes this truck so good, then?

Unrivalled Fuel Economy Figures

The fuel economy of the hybrid Maverick is something that we have looked at recently at HotCars. It seems to be a big talking point at the moment! The Maverick Truck Club forum is the place where some impressive figures were highlighted. A user by the name of Mavforever posted an image of their dashboard that showed they had done a staggering 595.2 miles in total since they refueled the truck. 269.9 of those miles were purely on electric, and the Maverick still had some 24 miles to go before it ran empty.

It's figures like this that led to Motor1 giving the Maverick a 10/10 fuel economy rating. At a city level, the truck has 42 MPG. For the highway, it is 33 MPG, and that adds up to a solid combined total of 37 MPG. It's by far one of the most economical trucks on the market right now. Rival trucks such as the Diesel Chevrolet Colorado can only muster a frankly pathetic 23 combined MPG compared to the 37 for the Maverick. Not only then is the Maverick a good truck for those who want a solid, no frills machine. It's also perfect for more fuel economy.

An Unbelievably Comfortable Truck

There can be no faulting the comfort levels that the Maverick provides, either. The seats both front and back are well-supported and padded, and there is a great amount of legroom for those travelling in the rear of the truck. The headroom has also been described as impressive in the Maverick. Ford adopted a unibody design over a body-on-frame layout. This means the ride is more like that of a crossover than a truck, meaning it absorbs bumps brilliantly, and is equally comfortable to boot. Ford have nailed the comfort levels.

An All-Round Impressive Truck

Performance wise, you aren’t going to set the world on fire with the Maverick Hybrid. That 191 hp figure is not that impressive. But it's not what this truck is about. This truck is simply about being a truck, a truck that does what is says on the tin without shouting at anyone, or pretending to be something it isn’t. And frankly, with fuel economy like the Maverick’s, it's really hard to look beyond this more entry-level Ford pickup truck. There are better trucks out there, but the 2022 Maverick Hybrid is certainly showing that it means business.
