Ford has revealed the new Ford Everest. The third-generation model is the SUV form of the US-bound Ranger pick-up truck. Ford is expected to introduce the Ranger to the global market before the Everest. The Everest has largely been a product designed for the Australian and Asian markets in mind. However, this new generation SUV is quite different from the one it replaces. So, we attempt to highlight how the new third-generation Ford Everest SUV is different from the old one.

A New Platform For The Third-Gen Ford Everest

via netcarshow

Ford has used the T6.2 platform for the new Everest SUV. It is an evolutionary design of the older generation model’s T6 platform. The T6.2 frame is also used on the new Ranger pick-up truck and the Bronco.

In terms of dimensions, the wheelbase of the new Everest has been elongated by 2-inches. The wheels have also been spread apart by 2-inches as well for a wider track. However, the vehicle’s overall width and length remain the same as the old model. The front subframe and front end of the Everest are similar to the Ranger. This allows all the mechanicals to remain similar. However, the rear end and subframe are different. Ford claims that the wider track allows the Everest to be more stable on the road and improve its capabilities off-road when compared to the last generation model. Wheel articulation has also been improved thanks to a revised suspension setup.

New Ford Everest Gets a New Line Of Engines

The new Everest, like the revised Ranger on which it is based, comes with a 3.0-liter turbo-diesel V-6 engine that was previously on duty in the F-150 pickup truck. The 2.0-liter bi-turbo diesel four-cylinder engine from the outgoing model will be retained. The 2.0-liter turbo diesel and 3.0-liter turbo diesel engines are only available with a 10-speed automatic transmission. The 3.2-liter turbo-diesel five-cylinder diesel is no longer available.

Permanent four-wheel-drive is offered on all versions of the new Everest. It features an on-demand two-speed electromechanical transfer case and selectable off-road modes. They are in addition to the Normal, Eco, Tow Haul, and Slippery selectable drive modes. The optional Tow Pack allows the Everest SUV to tow up to 7,700lbs. The older generation model was said to be capable of towing just over 6,600 lbs.

New Everest Gets A Major Redesign

Ford Everest New Interior Design

The third-generation Ford Everest stands apart from the old model, featuring a brand-new exterior body design. The major complaint about the older-gen Everest was that it didn’t look as tough as it was. This new redesign addresses that very well. The front end of the Everest is largely similar to the new Ranger. However, the rest of the car looks bold and tough as well. The Everest uses the same C-shaped LED DRLs as the Ranger, a modern Ford signature look. It even has adaptive Matrix LED headlamps as an option. The front styling goes well with the overall boxy SUV design that is in contrast to the more curvy look of the previous Everest. The rear is more squared-off, meaning more luggage space in the back. The tail lamps have been revised with a new LED light set up that adds a modern touch. The 21-inch rims are the biggest set of wheels on offer with the new Everest.

The cabin has been revised heavily as well. The dashboard gets a brand-new look. The older-generation model featured up to an 8-inch touchscreen with Ford SYNC. Ford has equipped the new model with its flagship sized 12-inch portrait-oriented touchscreen infotainment system that runs Sync 4A with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. The mid to low trim levels make do with a 10.1-inch screen instead.

The New Ford Everest Is Impressive

Ford has reworked the whole Ranger and Everest mid-size range of its trucks and SUVs. The Ranger and the Ranger Raptor are beasts for sure. But the new Everest is quite impressive as well so far on paper.

Ford seems to have put its heart and soul into redesigning the Everest SUV. The older model was well refined, but they claim the new generation Everest is on another level while also adding modern safety tech to the SUV. Ford claims to have upped the level of comfort in terms of space and seat bolstering as well as noise isolation in the cabin to make it even plusher than the previous model.

The Ranger and the performance-oriented Ranger Raptor are both confirmed to arrive in the US. However, Ford hasn’t mentioned anything about the Everest SUV being sold in America just yet. The model and the platform underneath are largely capable of complying with US regulations. But we await, with our fingers crossed, for confirmation from Ford if the Everest is bound for the US market to take on the Toyota 4Runner.
