The motorcycle market can sometimes be unfair for many, most of us want to have two or three bikes that serve different purposes. What if both of Royal Enfield’s dual-purpose bikes are perfect solutions for someone looking for an affordable ride that can manage rough and smooth terrain?

For those who have the economic capacity to have one, two, or even three bikes, it’s great to be able to pick out a proper bike for the day’s occasion. For others, a scrambler or an adventure bike are great options that allow us to enjoy all ways of riding, except track though!

The RE Himalayan and the Scram 411 share the same soul, they are powered by the same engine. For many people, this can just mean that they’re the same bike, but even if the differences are small, overall, we are talking about two different bikes that offer different approaches.

Royal Enfield is a motorcycle manufacturing company that holds the record for being the oldest motorcycle brand in continuous production and has the longest-lived design, the Enfield bullet. This company was born as Enfield Cycle Company in England, building their first bike in 1901. Nowadays, Royal Enfield is part of Eicher Motors Limited, an Indian automaker.

The company is known for making classic-looking bikes that are affordable for most of the public, and it has the support of more than 100 years of history. They create safe, low-budget, and quite visually appealing bikes, that fit the needs of a middle-class person that wants a top experience.

Along with the extensive different bikes that Royal Enfield has offered during all those years, there is one bike that catches the attention of a lot of people: the RE Himalayan. A double purpose or small Adventure bike that has been received in the best way.

With an off-road look, but with the essential characteristics of a good street bike, the Himalayan is a perfect alternative for having a comfortable daily use bike, but also gives you the possibility of going on a road trip without any problems.

The Royal Enfield Scram 411 is the newest member of the Royal Enfield family and the first of the scrambler segment. Starting with a Himalayan base, the Scram 411 offers a sportier look, without the evident off-road look that the Himalayan has.

This new bike is Royal Enfield’s approach to a potent scrambler that is great for daily use in the city or highway, and decent and easy to handle on off-road settings. The Scram 411 is a great option for someone that is looking for a sexy and affordable ride that has a spirit, can withstand some abuse, and will perform consistently.

Royal Enfield has kept some of the Himalayan’s characteristics and features, you can’t properly say this bike is built on that model, but actually minimized from. They basically have the same engine, brake system, and performance. At the end of the day, the Scram 411 is a shorter, more compact, and somewhat lighter version of a RE Himalayan.

The Royal Enfield Scram has a 411 cc engine paired with a 5-speed manual transmission. It weighs 408 lbs and has a fuel tank capacity of 15 L. The engine type is a single-cylinder, 4 strokes, air-cooled, and SOHC (Single Overhead Camshaft).

Up till now, all these engine specifications are shared by both bikes. The 411 engine is capable of delivering a maximum power of 24 hp and a torque of 23.60 ft-lbs. The bike is equipped with an abs brake system in both tires.

The Scram 411 has a digital electronic ignition, a half-duplex split cradle frame and a front 100/90-19 tire, and a 120/90-17 back tire. Here’s one of the ‘’downgrades’’ from the Himalayan for those that prefer a little off-road driving from time to time.

The bike has good stopping power with a 300 mm front disk brake and a 240 mm back disk brake.

Royal Enfield offers seven color configurations to choose from for the Scram 411, they are very bold and vibrant combinations, and some that are more appealing to the simpler crowd.

How The Royal Enfield Himalayan And Scram 411 Compare

Royal Enfield has smartly identified a way to create two different models from the same platform and foundation! In summary, it’s up to what you need, what you want to ride, and how you want to tackle the road.

The Himalayan has better off-road performance, it has a bigger front tire and is slightly taller. The design is focused on Adventure, and it handles rough terrain, batches, and bumps better. Apart from that, you can easily install your luggage so you and your bike can go wherever you want.

The Scram 411 on the other hand presents a sportier look, it rolls closer to the floor and may lack good space and distribution for luggage. It’s a bit lighter than the Himalayan, making it more maneuverable.

There is no point in trying to find which of these two is better. There are no significant differences that can determine this, but in no way are these bikes the same or even meant for the same purpose.

For a more off-road environment, and maybe having a bike that can resist a little more use and abuse, the option would be the Himalayan. For more urban and relaxed use, having a sportier-looking bike, and in general, a lighter ride will get you going places and drawing looks.

To clarify, this does not mean that the RE Scram 411 is not going to perform well during off-road circumstances, nor does it mean that the Himalayan is going to suffer during daily street use.
