Cars are big toys not just for big boys, but also girls as well. From time to time, women drivers proved they could be on par in the speedy world of racing, whether on the streets or track. Fast Chicks Racing, a drag racing team based in Byron, Illinois, has been tearing up the racetrack with their heavily tuned 1980 Chevrolet Malibu.

Drag Racing Sisters With 15 Years Experience

They may be young, but sisters Emma (25) and Arley (20) Ballard have 15 years of drag racing experience collectively. Their dad Mike was a motorcycle racer for around 11 years until Emma and Arley turned seven and two years old, respectively. The Ballard sisters raced in juniors for 12 years, gaining several achievements including a track championship. Their racing success came with their current drive – a 1980 Chevy Malibu.

Their drive isn't an ordinary Malibu, though. Emma acquired the dragster from a fellow racer in 2015. At the time, the Malibu was already capable of achieving quarter miles time of between low 12 seconds and high 11 seconds, at speeds of around 115 miles per hour. Wanting to go faster, the Fast Chicks Racing sisters upgraded their Malibu into a greater performer.

With its front end, trunk and interior redone at Schubert Speed Shop, the Malibu is powered by a 415-ci Brodix SBC cast block engine built by Maurer Engine Service. Featuring World angle plugged heads, Get'M Garage custom carburetor and Edelbrock intake, this mill can deliver 625 hp of max output and 600 lb-ft of peak torque.

Power is sent to the 35 spline Moser axles via Hughes Performance powerglide and 5500 stall torque converter. Its capabilities are supported by a Quartermax 4 link suspension with Strange coil over shocks. The Malibu rides on RC Components Exile S wheels shod with Goodyear 9-inch slicks, with stopping power courtesy of Strange disk brakes (all four corners).

Thanks to these upgrades, the Malibu was able to post a best time of 10.45 seconds at nearly 124 mph in the quarter mile. It would be of great support to Emma's campaign in the index series at Byron Dragway. By the way, Arley also races the Malibu in the bracket series at Byron Dragway.
