The Glickenhaus Boot has been spectacularly famous since winning the 2019 Baja 1000. Well, it should be, since it won the race that the Ford Bronco R failed to finish. This crowned the Boot as king of off-road monsters, capable of surviving unimaginable punishment.

Nevertheless, such punishment -- whether on a Ford or a Boot -- can damage the exterior. So, the best next thing to do after an off-road victory is a detailing! But how would you detail the Boot? Let Larry Kosilla of YouTube channel Ammo NYC can give us an idea.

Making The Boot Dirty To Clean It Up

Kosilla had an opportunity to drive the Boot through mud and harsh terrain. Normally, you won't do that to the rarest and most expensive vehicles, but with the Boot, not doing so is a great injustice, since this monster is made for the roughest of unpaved terra firma. But it's also injustice for the Boot just to leave it covered in mud after an off-road adventure; and let the dirt distract from the beauty of its pure functionalism.

Detailing is on a different level from just washing or cleaning. Detailing a car requires thoroughly cleaning the vehicle while adding extra layers of protection for the next adventures. Kosilla tapped detailing master Jason Rose – an avid off-road enthusiast – to help detail the Boot.

Detailing The Boot: A Meticulous Process

The process started by power-washing and foaming the entire exterior. The next step was hand-washing the the same surfaces, even employing brushes to ensure that the smallest nooks and crannies are dirt free. The team subsequently focused the interior, which is designed to git dirty. Of course, power-washing wasn't an option, so the cabin had to hand-washed from the beginning.

After the Boot was cleaned up, the team started to polish the exterior paint, with the objective of removing 75% of finish defects. It was a very meticulous process, but the team managed. Lastly, the Boot was coated with enamel paint, serving as a new layer of protection for further rough drives.

The drive and detailing experience was one of a kind. But what further interests is the fact that Boot is street legal and was driven both to and from the Baja 1000 event it won.  Furthermore, it was built in a garage owned by a guy name James "Jim" Glickenhaus, who doesn't have billion-dollar coffers or a team of hundreds to back all the necessary development.
