Both EVs Share Similar Looks But Underneath Differs

It goes without saying that the Hyundai Ioniq 5 is a great family electric car, as is the Kia EV6. AutoTrader seems to say it themselves. Both have a tremendous range, great practicality, and great looks, which does make sense as they share the same EGMP platform.

The team suggests how similar the two electric cars are in looks, yet they are very different in the mechanics.

Hyundai's Ioniq 5 features chunkier and distinctive design details. Notably, the Kia EV6 is more traditional-looking in appearance than the Ioniq 5, with its sleek design. Choosing between looks is near impossible, as AutoTrader admits themselves, so let's cover their findings when it comes to pricing and performance.

Although the Hyundai Ioniq 5 and Kia EV6 use the same platform, their specifications are very different, which reflects their price difference. Kelley Blue Book expects the 2022 Ioniq 5 to start around $44,000, while they estimate the 2022 Kia EV6's cost around $45,000. Yet, the higher price does not mean that the Ioniq 5 is a winner.

The range puts the price difference into perspective as the standard model of the Ioniq 5 has a 170 horsepower ability with a 58 kWh battery, with a range of 239 miles. However, the standard model of the Kia EV6 offers similar horsepower but with a 74 kWh battery that can offer a 328-mile range.

What's more is that the EV6 has a quicker charging time with a rapid charger, which can recharge from 10% to 80% in 18 minutes. So, for about $5,000 more you can have the same power yet almost 100 more miles in range and faster charging.

In summary, if the price is your preference, then the Hyundai Ioniq 5 will win your battle. It all comes down to preference. Yet, if the range is what sells you an electric car, then the Kia EV6 is the clear winner. Overall, the Kia EV6 is a little bit more expensive yet does offer more brilliance than the Hyundai Ioniq 5.
