When it comes to touring car racing, it's always better to have more choices. At Hyundai, current TCR offerings include the i30 N TCR and Veloster N TCR. Now, customer teams have one more touring car to consider – the new Hyundai Elantra N TCR. This high-performance racing edition of the just updated Elantra could give sports cars a run for their money.

For Customers Familiar With Elantra

The Hyundai Elantra N TCR – designed and built by the South Korean carmaker's Customer Racing department – is the latest addition to Hyundai Motorsport's range of TCR-specification cars. This new offering will greatly benefit customer teams from countries where the standard Elantra model is more familiar. This move should help ensure maximum customer relevance around the world.

While the new TCR offering is based on the standard Elantra, Hyunda's Customer Racing department actually commenced their work from a blank sheet of paper. This allowed its designers and engineers to fully capitalize on the sedan's already stable, high-performance chassis and body shape. Their two years' worth of learning from their work on the i30 N TCR and Veloster N TCR allowed them to create the best Elantra N TCR package.

Specs And Development

Don't expect a hybrid-powered Elantra for the TCR racer. Abiding TCR rules, the new Elantra N TCR is a front-wheel drive race car served by a two-liter turbocharged mill derived from a brand-new base engine found under the hood of Hyundai's standard offerings. Just like the i30 N TCR and Veloster N TCR, the Elantra N TCR will send power from the engine to the front wheels through six-speed transmission (via a paddle shift).

The Elantra N TCR underwent its first test in June, and since then, Hyundai's Customer Racing department has implemented a considerable development and testing regimen. Aside from visiting circuits in Europe to develop both sprint and long-distance packages, the department heard the voices of several drivers, including current i30 N TCR drivers.
